Correct Weight of Oil for ball diff rebuild

Post by DoppleBanger »

Got a slightly tired RC b4 kit I'm rebuilding.

What's the correct weight of oil to use rebuilding the ball diff ?

It's going to be used mainly indoors on polished floor/carpet surfaces.

Ball diff or gear diff?

If it's a true ball diff use the supplied grease, white stealth on the diff balls and black on the thrust.

If it's a gear diff (which use oil) I cant comment as I've don't like them and havn't driven a car with one that I've liked yet.

On another note - Welcome to the board.

Thanks!

its a 2nd hand kit so no parts supplied with it.

It's a ball diff AFAIK It feels pretty rough if you twist one wheel and hold the other, should they feel rough or smooth when you do this ?

Sounds definately like a ball diff, ball diffs feel crunchy when they are worn and need rebuilding. Ball diffs don't use oil but a special grease.

Pick up these parts and rebuild your diff per the manual.
#7677 Diff rebuild kit
#6591 Stealth Diff Grease
#6588 Black Grease
