My diamond in the rough.

Post by 501sRC10 »

This last weekend I had to go to my Grandfathers funeral across the state. While there I needed something to take my mind off of why I was there so I decided to visit a few hobby shops that I knew of. I ended up picking up an early CE car for $25. It was sitting on his shop shelf gather dust and he just wanted to get the shelf space back. I was disappointed that all the white parts were dyed red but at $25, being nearly all there (just missing the rear turnbuckles), and no extra holes/scratches on the chassis I was happy to buy it. When I got it home I did the teardown and that's when I noticed the double A stamp, Now I'm really happy about buying it. I had another car I was building into an early CE car, I'm going to use that for the parts I need to restore this one. It will end up being a nice mix of original used, original new and rere parts. Here are the pics.

Thanks for the kind words SCR8P , my Grandfather was a great man, lived into his mid nineties, he and Grandma celebrated their 70th anniversary this past year, he survived WWII (he fought in the Aleutian Islands), and through it all he never raised his voice in anger to anyone. He was a man to look up to.

Finally getting around to the update. Since my original post, everything has been cleaned and mostly put back together, I just have to get the transmission top shaft back in and get a body done up for it, planning to do a box art paint for it. Funds are thin thanks to getting a NIX 91 ordered, so it will be a bit. This one is probably the most original car I'll have the only thing none original are the turn buckles everything else is original, vintage used, or vintage new, turn buckles are new DuBro. I also thought it would be nice to include pictures of her younger sister. She started off as a bare gold "C" stamp pan I got in a parts lot awhile ago. She is now sporting all black parts and a Rooster, even though she should have a Viper body she will have a Manual art Protech 2.
