New Member - New Build

Post by bortpbyz »

Hello everybody. I've been lurking around here for years as a guest and finally found the time to start a build and post. I am going to try and combine a few mostly complete rollers into two separate runners. I am working on my user image and picture uploads. I have a primitive internet connection.

I bought this graphite roller on eBay back in 2011, just days after finding this site.

This B stamp is mostly made of dyed parts off of my original Gold 92 CE. Its been sitting as pictured since around 98.

So I have actually started tearing the cars down and cleaning the parts. I'm going to post more pictures tomorrow and I have a close up of those shocks. Good eye, they are not AE shocks but I didn't notice when I bid on the car back in 2011. I've been inspired by a lot of the period correct gold pan runners so I'm heading that direction first. I haven't wrenched on one of these cars for close to 20 years so I'm in it for the learning too.

Here are the shocks I'm working with. The one on the right is from the CE but the one on the left is the shock in question. Does anybody recognize this shock and if so what is it? They came on my graphite roller.

I want to build a true runner so I had no reservations drilling this old A stamp out to fit a Stealth. I gave the chassis a good cleaning and that's it. Other than a few scratches it's in pretty good shape.

I'm an electrical engineer and dont get to mess around in the machine shop very often. I measured the counter sink depth and had one of our techs drill a few while I took this picture. I basically drilled this 20 dollar chassis out on a 150k+ drill press.

I had the perfect drill guide laying around. I just bolted it bottom to bottom and used a set of transfer punches to mark the holes.

You can barley see the A stamp back there.

That shock looks like a Kyosho Gold or Duratrax Gold shock...

Yep, the beveled edge shock shows it to be a duratrax shock. If the bottom edge wasn't beveled like that it would be a kyosho shock. There is a thread around here somewhere with some really good comparison pix but I can't remember where right off the top of my head.

I like your comment on drilling a $20 chassis with a $150k drill 8)

Yeah I think they are duratrax. I'll through them in a parts drawer for later. Great discussion. Can't help but think what life would be like right now if my graphite roller would have came with a set of AE Shocks. AE shock parts on order.

The simple green alone does wonders. I washed all the parts and put them in the peroxide bath sealed in a jar.

Got a little more work done. I've got a great system for restoring old screws and washers I'm going to post.

I'm just using this black steering setup for mock up. It got an original RPM center link.
