Do the outdrive slots have any raised burrs on them from dogbone wear? That can make the bearings hard to press over the outdrive.
The outdrives got a quick freshening with a small file for any burrs, and a super quick polishing for surface rust....

When you refer to burrs here do you mean any odd protrusions on the gears which were not machined off during the machining process?
Yes. On the steel outdrives, the burrs tend to look like bits of flashing along the sides of the teeth.

OK. Thanks. With the grease I was more questioning if it should be used at all on the thrust bearing in the 6 gear since the manual doesn't call for it. Should have worded it better.
