I have a question....

Post by kaybo19114 »

I have access to an original (circi 1984) 6-gear RC10 that is my dad's. I'm thinking about taking it out and run it at the Vintage Nationals in September. Now aside from the "destroying the shelf queen" concept, what should i worry about updating to handle racing? This car has been built but NEVER run - I'd be the first person to ever run it, let alone racing it :)

So for all you vintage guys that actually race these things - what should I look out for and be prepared to "worry" about?

Thanks

kaybo

The biggest thing I might worry about is destroying the value

Just in case you haven't noticed, I don't think ANYONE here would actually run an UNRUN 6-Gerar gold tub from 198x.

In your case I'd try to buy a cheap stealth car to fix up as a runner.

just my 2 cents

Now, that's what my gut is telling me as well...I just feel bad for the car sitting there all these years and not ever being run

I'm not one of those "build it to sit" kind of guys

I have a feeling I'm probably going to go the "buy a stealth car" route, already got my eye on a couple

If your dad is willing to part with it, sell it on ebay and buy 4 used cars with the money you get from it.

oh he is willing to part with it...just don't know what the actual value of it would be - it is missing the MSC, but did/does have bearings...

(thanks to my wife), I got a soft spot for inanimate objects like this  and my heart bleeds thinking its sitting there never run....

Keep this buggy a shelf queen. One run and it ends up like every other RC10 out there.

so let me get this straight. this car has been sitting around, unused, for around 25 years. and now that it's worth 2,maybe 3 times what your dad paid for it, you feel the need to use it?

OK OK OK - damn, did I open up a can of worms :!:

I already decided the car is gonna sit as is....

I've been looking all over ebay yesterday (since I can't get into that area here, yet)...and I think I might have found one :)

Good call

Don't feel sorry for the car that has never ran. If you were clean and sitting up on a nice pedestal, having never tasted the thrill and agony of racing, would you rather stay there high and dry or be drug through the dirt and banged around by other cars only to come in last place?

Trust me, that car is happier that a 10 in slop. Just don't forget to pet it from time to time and push it around the coffee table making car noises. And don't tell me most of you guys don't still do that :P ...

Every thing we do around here except golf is against some city ordinance. But I do it anyway

Fireworks anyone? Myrtle is just down the road.
