variances in chassis color?

Post by rc-stu »

I recently acquired these 2 rc10s. (craigslist- $100 for both) Does anybody know why the color of the gold anodization varies so much between them? They are both "A" chassis and i don't think the ligher one is faded from sunlight because the color is perfectly even everywhere on the chassis, including underneath various parts. My original rc10 is somewhere in between these 2 (no picture). Also, what is the difference between the "A" chassis and the others? Thanks!

you got an awesome deal on those. that light colored one is a very early rc10. dual servo saver bellcrank, fiberglass battery straps, and the large rear shock cups.

Wow, you know your RC10s. So were the early ones a light shade of gold? I'm assuming the blue parts are dyed right?

not as good as halgar.

ya, the early no stamp and A stamp chassis were the light gold, as well as some of the late b and c stamped tubs. the later ones look aweful though, imo.

and yes, the blue parts were dyed. they would've been white.

As well as single-hole shock towers. That light color car is a nice example of a very early RC10. Certainly a prime candidate for a top-down restoration. That's a rare one. I'd swap the white parts off of the other car and look for some original wheels and tires. That's screaming for a box-art restoration, for sure.

Nice find. I'm jealous.

do the rear tires have the "goodyear" script on them, or are they plain?

The spring cups look like they have been replaced to the new ones.

Exactly what I was thinking. Put the white parts on the oldy, gently place it up on the shelf, put the blue parts on the more common car and run that one.

Great score for sure. Welcome to the board. 8)

I highly recommend checking craigslist often but don't type "rc10" etc. Type "rc car" or "rc truck" and check the pictures. with patience you'll find the ones from people who have no idea what theyre selling and want to make a few bucks off of some old "junk".
Anyway, I'm glad to hear that and thanks for the great info. I think I will do exactly as you said but I have some NIP parts I got off ebay I'll start with. Then I'll swap out what I don't have with the other one. The only problem is those dyed shock parts on the early one. I'll have to find some white large cups.

I've got one of those lighter shade of gold chassis the only problem is trying to find a nose and motor plate that come close to the early shade of gold.

I'm going to do exactly that and thanks for the welcome. I'll be searching for those original wheels and tires now.

By the way, I'm already doing one shelf build... not quite done yet but everything is new. i have no problem working on two!

they are competely plain. the other one has losi wheels and tires (obvious to you i guess haha). My shelfer build has the associated logo and name on all the tires.
