Spare Parts, BAJA - 10

Post by Qballll »

I would like to thank Rizzo and Scollins for the idea. I've been working on this for about 2 weeks now, mostly waiting for the rear tires off Ebay. It was a very scratched-up chassis, little sanding and cutting added the paint plus spare parts from old cars. What do you guys think?
I've got the body, but need help with colors?

Yes, I'm looking for a good bumper. It's not as bad as it looks in that picture the nose tubes pulled it up away from the chassis. I need to change that or put a spacer into the nose tubes.
I need ideas for painting the body?????

ya, you definately need to cut the front of the chassis off. a pair of short front arms would be sweet, too.

With that color on the chassis I would paint the body like the old Gulf sponsered Ford GT40's of the 60's. That would be awsome!

Nice work!

I was think about old school like that (blue/orange). The body is a VW bug, from Prama. Any pictures for ideas would help. I would like to know how people have paint these bodies stripes, lines, and other graphics. I don't want to copy anyone but would like to see what it looks like with different colors and designs on them.
Thanks.

The body and chassis look awesome. I'd have to agree with Scr8p that the shorter arms would look better. I really like the paint scheme...good job!

You got the colour choice right! I was expecting that from the moment I saw your chassis colour and a bit surprised to read in the post you had'nt decided yet.

If you ever plan to get a second one (maybe the bolink version from mrlexan; it would look cool with the theme of the mc'laren GT cars too. same colour plus a bright orange.

I have been running short (original ultima) and shortened chassis on and off over the last 15 years. It's amazing how they sometines get you round the track faster than a long-stretch base.
I hope you'll have as much fun running your SWB as I do!

My latest SWB creation at a local event (where it did way better than the 2 other cars in this picture). Sorry I don't have action pics.

Thanks all for the nice comments. I would like to go with the shorter arms but the front inside wheel when turned nearly hits the body, and does hit at 3/4 shock travel. Could jack the body up more but then it kind looks odd.

it looks like the rear tires would hit the body during compression too, where you have it sitting in those pics. unless it's just an illusion.

i have the short arms on mine. the body isn't mounted yet, but this is where it needs to be to clear the rear tires during travel. i don't think it looks goofy.
