I remember these, only because of the real cool looking red suspension components, made from their propriatarty Coral material. Both of these cars are absolutely mint.
What would be the period correct servo and ESC for these?
sweet. i love those cars. i had an sp-10 i raced a few times bitd. but it was hard to get parts, so i sold it. i actually still have a new pair of mounted front foams for it.

The car on the right was my 2nd 1/12th scale car. One of the most evil carpet cars I have ever driven. Wouldn't go straight to save my life. Traded it for a graphite 12L and all was well. The TOJ body was period correct, but we also ran the Andy's Mercedes with the spoiler and it looked awesome. At that time, I was running Tekin 410K speedos in my carpet cars.
The major achilles heel of that car was the proprietary wheels and not U.S. standard 2-bolts. The diff was superior, though.
Doug one of the guys showed up with an Andy's Mercedes painted up in the correct silver scheme on his 1/12 at the Underground in Chicago. Totally sweet. I guess he found it at an old hobby shop out in the suburbs. I drove the car and it wasn't that bad. What happened with that Corvette body...????
It does make the current stuff look totally ridiculous.
I too recently acquired a mint SP12 (car on the left) and originally had the SPII (car on the right) back in the day. Awesome quality but were very prone to tweaking with the alloy arms and chassis.
Period esc would be the one actually released by Corally....it was very thin and about the size of a credit card. I use to own one of those...can't for the life of me remember the model number or where it ended up
thanks, gents. I'll have to keep my eyes open for the electronics and a Toj, Mercedes or Nissan body to finish them off. Parts are nonexistent for these things! I was real lucky that they were nearly complete and that the parts I needed were still used on the current models (screws and little bits).
Is there a specific servo I should be hunting for as well?
I really regret getting rid of my corallys in the mid 90's. I had 2 spII & 2 sp12 and a bunch of extra chassis and parts. I got my first spII in a local trade. The others I got from 2 local hobby shops (Al's...basement & Arlington Hobbies). The Arlington guys were into the corallys, so they had a ton of stuff left over after they got out of the rc business and started focusing on slot cars.
As for the wheels, there was a kit where you can use standard pan car wheels and tires on the corally. I never needed them because I had a surplus of wheels and tires.
I'm seeing this post a little late but thought I'd chime in. Here's a shot of the Corally ESC from the '91 Corally catalog. The other pic is of my unrestored SP-II and SP-12. I ran the SP-12 in 1990 (or maybe '91) with a Tekin 411G speed control, Tekin micro receiver and Futaba 132SH servo, later switching to the Airtronics 94143 servo for steering. That year I was also using the Purple Trinity Pushed Panasonic P-170 SCR batteries and TOJ body. I don't recall having a tweaking problem. I'm going to restore these two cars soon. I was able to get a bunch of old stock for these from Stormer Hobbies.

I recently saw a set of these adapters on ebay. They were made by DuMor Racing. I remeber these guys made a bunch of aftermarket corally stuff.

Yup, DuMor made the aftermarket corally items. I think I may have some of their items for the 1/10th stuff somewhere. They also made an adapter for the tire truers so that you can true corally tires.

The more, the merrier, Marc! I'm glad to see there are others out there that have them and have some historical racing experiences, good and bad (sorry, D!). What parts were you able to score from Stormer? I wonder what the chances are of finding a 1st gen PK Corally ...
