I took the car 100% apart and started working on cleaning the shocks which I thought where rusted on the pictures when I bought it. Home, it looked like burned oil mixed with dirt, very hard and stuck to the metal. No, it wasn't animal dumping. At least, I didn't get the smell of it. I spent an afternoon cleaning them.

Here I have to thank badhoopty, who was the first to talk about it, for the Mothers tip. I have had quite different products when I was in Europe but this one is the most efficient.

Now, they look new, cool.

Same process on hubs. Small parts are hard to handle and some basic math came to my mind concerning heat conductivity about aluminum: "Dremel + Mothers = burned fingers."

The left one is "cleaned".

Image

How cool is that, mmmh?

On this shot we can see the one-way. I still have to find a spur gear that fit though. The Kimbrough spur that came with is too wide and is rubbing against the upper slot.

This is how I left the chassis 2 days ago.

Yesterday evening, I worked on the body.

Test first, works like a charm on Acrylic base paint!

Also, I would be glad if MX-4 owners could help me to make a list of compatible parts.

A picture worth...

I compared both parts, they are exactly the same other than the small extension support.

Thanks and good to read you wst873. Also, I thank you for the Kyosho thread you wrote, your "nitro" tip works great! 8)

Oh, by the way, I have been working this evening to scan some carbon parts into Acrobat Reader. It will be a lot more easy for you to just print a page with the template already on the good size.

I have the blue MX-4 mount on my mini, think I also saw a nip one in japan last week but it could have been for the mr-4bc also.

Manneken,
for your body search; I tried on the baldre body and it seems very promissing.
(the car is not assembled so just looking at the bare chassis)

Unfortunately there's no underbody for that body, but if you just plan carpet racing or shelf sitting it should be good

Beter late than never... exactly 11 months today!

Is used nothing else other than what you see in the pictures, cotton swabs and some of my wife cosmetic cotton's rounds. Fuel speaking, I utilize what wts873 shared in his MX-4 thread. LHS had only 30% nitro fuel and I bet 20% might work either... maybe not as fast though. Mr Lex raised there was many chance lexan whiten... true. But, for my luck, there is very few spots and, for this job, they are placed on the front bottom where it should not (hopefully) affect repainting. I will post as soon as I have repainted the body following my favorite scheme.

Image

n.b.: the trick will not work with polycarbonate based paint, learned it the hard way when I screwed a paint job on a B2 body in 1996. (wrong quality masking tape)

Voila, I was upping my thread because I have some news. I have fi-nal-ly found the parts missing to bring it back to life. All parts are in the mail and should be home shortly. Better news, I have found a painted body from an ex Team Associated racer. I am very tempted to make some reproductions since a few buddies are looking for one.
