Re: 1985 Marfet ESC (Pre-Nosram)
Thanks Martin - even more interesting. Didn't realise MG and Nosram combined for a team, assuming that's the MGN you mention as I've not heard that term before. Andy's rise to real top level was maybe a bit late for those prototypes. Strong chance he had a kit version as his dad was handy with stuff...

Re: 1985 Marfet ESC (Pre-Nosram)
I had a Marfet back in the day. Got it second hand and it's long gone but I think it may have come from Andy Langdon who ran some of Nick's equipment (and raced the same areas as Mark Mainey) so there's a chance it was an original. Was in black electrical tape though, not heatshrink so maybe not :sh...

Re: My first car - Mardave Meteor
Fair point - the rest of us had to make so with plastic :( It looks really good in the black with red trim, and the Cactus tyres (by the look of it) work on those wheels - not sure that look right on kit wheels. Although I could never warm to shocks being upside down regardless of the necessity to k...

Re: Kyosho SST transmission diagnosis
They both work in the Rampage box (once shimmed of course) but there is definitely more backlash in the mesh between top shaft and diff gear with the Pro X shaft. I got my hands on the shafts to compare sizes, but stupidly didn't actually count the teeth before I gave it back to the guy doing the mo...

Re: Team Demon 15Double - double endbell bearing mod
Can't help with the Demon motors but I did see a MG back around 90 that had dual bearings in the endbell.
It was a signature M. Goddard can and a 15 x 2 but can't remember any more. I assumed at the time it was something Mick had done but might have been a home modification.

Re: Concept 4:10
That's awesome!
Quite period thinking I reckon rather than today's stuff which is all so similar.
It's inspired me to do a 4wd trailing arm car.

Re: Kyosho SST transmission diagnosis
IMG_20220124_182825241.jpg No, I don't mean the lengths. I mean the diameter of the section of shaft with teeth on it. Unfortunately I don't have the Rampage shaft to hand as it's with a chap making a motor plate for me to show a comparison, but it is bigger in diameter than the Pro X version. So t...

To me - in the UK - that looks so weird as nothing like that was raced here.
But it's so cool

Re: Kyosho SST transmission diagnosis
Okay, got some bits for the gearbox rebuild but I want to check on what you've done with the layshaft. There is a considerable difference in diameter of the toothed section between the standard Rampage Pro layshaft compared to the Pro X version (SST7) It does go in (once spaced correctly as you've m...

Re: Kyosho SST transmission diagnosis
Need to drag up an old topic here please. stickboy007 - I've watched your YouTube vids with interest (very informative - thanks!) as I'm planning to convert a Rampage Pro to electric too, I hope you can help with some queries. I'd be looking to out the Pro-X layshaft in ideally for better slipper po...

Re: My original CAT XL - freshly uncovered
It's ok Martin, I never tire of seeing it 8) As for the CAT, I had a couple when I was too inexperienced really to get them to work properly. Just fudged it with second hand bodgers but I think they really needed work to get them to go well. The SWB was before my time but I guess they were pretty ho...

You keep wheeling out that photo
Can't believe the rookie error of the car in second with black front wheels and yellow rear.
But I've learnt since then

Re: PB ACE - The Prototype
Not much help, but there was a club member at Swindon in the UK that got one. It was rubbish. Wasn't helped by the driver lacking a bit in car prep, but from what I can remember it didn't fare well against the others cars it was competing against. I thought about getting one a while ago, but I've gi...

Re: Extreme Motorsports motors
For anyone interested I did get some info from some guys on FB (Mike Haswell and Jamie Booth - who both have some experience  ). Extreme motors were done by Eric Sonderquist who had previously worked for Twister, and he went on to do the Maxtec range of motors in the mid/late 90's (with backing...
