Re: Turbo Optima Re-Re Transmission

It just so happens that my offroad shenanigans caused me to have to remove my ESC anyway to add some fresh double-sided tape, so it's as good a time as any.. I wish I had some new gears to install while I'm at it, but my pinion order just got cancelled... I guess the Kyosho distributor issues aren't...

Re: Turbo Optima Re-Re Transmission

Oooh that's fancy.. I have some spare lexan, maybe I'll give that a try. Thanks for the heads up. I guess it needs to come apart again

Re: Kyosho Fantom EP 4WD Ext (1/12th scale 4WD pan car)

If I ever do get around to building the new one I have, I certainly wouldn't try to paint it myself.

Re: Turbo Optima Re-Re Transmission

I took it out for the first off-road mission, and everything was great ... (though still too slow) Anyway, it looks like too much gunk got stuck in the belt drive area... Should there be that little opening? Any ideas for keeping more of the dirt out of there? I guess I'll just put a piece of tape o...

Re: Kyosho Fantom EP 4WD Ext (1/12th scale 4WD pan car)

Doesn't the new one come with that same body? You can't buy the car, but it looks like you can get a body Hi, I have a sealed mint Fantom EXT CRC II body, (part no. EF-97 so bagged/sealed and even back in the 80s has outer protective film) so it's hard work, but can be done. crcii.JPG now its been a...

Re: Kyosho Fantom EP 4WD Ext (1/12th scale 4WD pan car)

Sorry I missed this reply... I did manage to find one at some point, but also came across this metal version for the re-release ...pretty sure it's a bolt-on direct replacement for the original...though I don't know if I'll get a chance to confirm that first-hand before 2029 when my back-ordered new...

Re: Twisters motors

I tried to shoot the same video today ...to complain about my Turbo Optima being TOO SLOW with the 240S ....then I remembered why I should have brought out the tripod instead of trying to show what full throttle looked like with 1 hand...ah well, I guess my 1st crash had to come sooner or later :oop...

Re: Turbo Optima Re-Re Transmission

FOR SURE - The one silver lining to all of this. Without the pandemic, it might have taken me another year. There's no shortage of unfinished R/C projects 'round here...tho I think I'm going to log some more wheel time before getting back to the workbench. Too bad I still can't take this thing to th...

Re: Turbo Optima Re-Re Transmission

Thanks again for all of your help. Once I got into a groove it went back together quite easily. I can't be 100% sure but I think it was all the result of this little OT208d gear in step #3 being off-kilter because one of those BRG007 bearings wasn't secure. Seems to be running like a top now, tranny...

Re: Now people can't stop talking about the 1/12th Fantom 4wd re-re!!! :)

Apparently these guys have a couple over in the UK...but they want >$100 over list price + a fairly hefty shipping price. I couldn't do it; they have to get 'em in stock eventually. I've heard nothing from Kyosho America officially, nor is there any public announcement I've been able to find. You'd ...

Re: Turbo Optima Re-Re Transmission

I'll give that a try; thanks. I'm glad at least for my OCD in that I ordered a new gear box before it became impossible to get Kyosho parts (I sorta stripped the part where that set screw goes in )...so I'll just swap out those cruddy spacer things. gearbox.jpg Wow, this is a serious head-scra...

Re: Turbo Optima Re-Re Transmission

I did manage to pull apart the rear gearbox, and just like I feared, it's all correct, spacer & all. This part would just spin when unscrewing from the outside...I did finally manage to get it off of there; maybe those spacers are stripped after having to be removed & reinstalled so many tim...

Re: Turbo Optima Re-Re Transmission

I've already torn most of it apart...so I guess I may as well keep going. Though now I'm really struggling to keep the OT202 thingies from moving so I can remove the long screws... can't even apply enough force with the needle nose to keep it steady. There might also be some thread-lock in there gum...

Re: Turbo Optima Re-Re Transmission

Absolutely brutal...I can't see how I could have forgotten that spacer AND lost it - but it looks like there's no way around tearing the gear boxes apart. Hopefully I'll find whatever it is in the rear. I just hate that I have to pretty much go back to step 3 & rebuild the whole thing over again...

Re: Turbo Optima Re-Re Transmission

Right; I see, from step #4... I haven't tore open the gear boxes, but would the diffs & belt drive able to rotate/move smoothly by hand or rolling if I'd forgotten that spacer somehow? It'd also be in my 'extra' bin...and I don't think I lost it. Crap. I thought I had a possibility there. It doe...
