Re: Give a pro driver a crappy car experiment

I think the point made about "how uncompetitive" results from this experiment is most interesting to me as well. Give Ryan Maifield, Masami Hirosaka, a top local racer, and myself a bone stock Tamiya Grasshopper with a transponder. How different will our times be? Five seconds, three or le...

RC10 Edinger from Japan unboxing

It was exciting to finally get my first Edinger RC10. To top it off it was in mint condition. Luckily, I was the only bidder and won the auction paying 500,000 yen in 2019. This originally sold for 34,500 yen in the 1980s or 345 USD at the time. The sale came with the spare original gold tub, and an...

Smart city designs with RC in mind

What if you designed a small Asian city with RC in mind? It might look like Seo-Gu Incheon metropolitan city in South Korea. A bunch of enthusiasts came together and pushed for the city to include on-road and off-road tracks into the spaces beneath bridges. It's all FREE from 6am to 8pm (when lights...

3D printing and Tamiya store in South Korea

Went to my first 3D printing shop in South Korea in Hongdea Station area (the art hub of Seoul). Not surprisingly a lot of art students use 3D printing for their work, and the prices are really low. Dadio designed two options for the RC10 Grasshopper project. More to come on that later. Anyhow, I pr...

Re: ** Build of the Month Contest - September 2022 ** - Winner - THEYTOOKMYTHUMB

My modified Tamiya Egress combines old and new hop-ups. The foundation is a reissued Egress, with smoky windows, sparkling silver, improved ball cups and upgraded aluminum suspension, steering and transmission from G-Force option parts. The stance is vintage Egress using cast metal uprights and lowe...

Ultimate Tamiya Egress Thread

I wanted to start a thread for Tamiya Egress enthusiasts. This is easily my favorite buggy of all time from Tamiya. Whoever designed this mean-looking buggy hit a homerun. It looks so fast and awesome right out of the box. This is my all-out 2022 rendition of the Tamiya Egress. The original 1989 is ...

Re: ** Build of the Month Contest - September 2022 ** - Winner - THEYTOOKMYTHUMB

Well done Thumbs! I remember the dominator, and you did a nice job showing why it still looks cool today. It was 100% deserving. Having said that, I have to stop getting in last place dude story of my life haha.

RC10 DS unboxing in 2022 (Japan kit)

This is an unboxing of the RC10 DS kit from Japan. This is the racer spec kit with teflon-coated shocks and full bearings. I think most Associated kits sold in Japan were all racing spec since parts and hop-ups were harder to come by. Mine didn't come with a body...is this normal or just missing? Th...

Vintage Advertisements from Team Associated catalog

This came with my RC10 DS kit just as Associated was moving on to the RC10B2.
They were still selling the RC10 C.E. as the "best value in American made cars" interestingly.

Cherished electric motors

Share pics of motors that you particularly like in your collection! I will start off and share two in my collection that I particularly like simply because they look beautiful (having nothing to do with performance of course). Look at all those vents to keep things cool on both the endbell and the c...

1985 IFMAR Race Report from Japan with stunning photos

I was lucky to get this vintage RC book in my collection recently. The report and photos report of the first-ever 1985 IFMAR world champion race is simply amazing to me. I came across a PDF of the photos on the internet a while back, blown away by the quality of the color photos. In the 1980s Japan ...

Caring for vintage tires in 2022 and beyond

So what are the best ways to care for old vintage tires? I have many display vehicles and would like to keep them from cracking and falling apart for years to come. What do you do for your tires? I once used automative spray (to keep belts and automotive rubber parts) from cracking. I recently came ...

Tamiya Grasshopper II "4WD Black Special"

This is my 4WD iteration of the Grasshopper II in "Black Special" edition. The aftermarket shocks which I had laying around were a nice fit, with a level ride height, and plenty of travel. I little bit more heavy shock oil (currently 45 wt) in the rear and I think this will make for a fun ...
