Yes, simply put, all oils get "thicker" as the temp goes down. The colder it is, the thicker the oil is going to behave, which is why when racing indoors in the winter, you have to use a step or two lighter oil in the shocks than normal.
What shock oil weight came with the cadillac era gold pan car? I'm restoring one, but don't want to use exactly what came in the kit, but something close to it. I'm thinking it's somewhere between 30-40 wt, but I'm not certain. I've...

I'll keep an eye on them - thanks. If they do happen to do that over time, then I'll get a full set of TRF silicone o-rings to eliminate that problem.
I have just picked up a YZ-10 for resale. Actually in pretty good condition. Sounds like most of the shock oil is still in them but I would like to take them off, clean them up, and refill them with some fresh oil. I have had a few before but don't...

Thaks dude but I think I am going to leave it alone because I want to leave it in as found condition. It's going to be in the bst.
I decided to take a break from the RC-10's and build up a T-MAXX from my parts. I was just wondering what you guys think is a good medium weight for the original shocks?

The stock oil is supposedly 30wt, but I would say more like 20-25. I would go with 30-35wt. Associated oil.
After getting my optima mid off the cabinet last weekend for some backyard track action, I noticed that one of the rear shocks became unscrewed and leaked out all of the remaining shock oil. I was wondering if there is comparable shock oil to the...

I had that in mind in terms of the 30wt. oil figured it was the safest bet other than purchasing ultra scarce 25-year old silicone oil. Everything looks ok, but I might just try to change out the o-rings. I wonder if these new style ones are the...
I'm sure there must be cheap substitutes for the different weights of oil sold for our RC oil-filled shocks. I see references to 30 weight, 35 weight, etc...but I think a 5W30 or 10W30 motor oil would be much too thick. What do you guys use instead...

gotta make sure the mustard is a fine grind though, I made the mistake once and you should see the car pogo after the small particles of seed plug the pistons and bind the shock up solid!
Here is another one of my old favorites. It’s an early RC12L that has seen lots of track time. Somewhere along the way, the rear pod oil shock went missing after many years and I would like to find a replacement unit but not sure what would be a...
