After chatting with Chris (aka- BESTY) I remembered an advertisement clipping I glued into my old scrap book when I was a kid way back when. Anyway here it is, the COX 'Bandido'. Back when i was young and impressionable I used to collect advertisments from the mail on anything r/c and into the book they were stuck-LOL! I remember seeing this advert and i was in the middle of saving my pocket money for an Optima which i put on lay bye. I was tempted to go out and buy this car because at that point i had enough money saved. Kinda glad i waited and got the Optima in the end though.
From what i hear this was Chris's first buggy and he's been searching parts to build 2 cars, a new built shelfer and a vintage racer to run with. Im looking forward to seeing him down on the central Coast soon and i can finaly have a look over this car in person for the first time.
Anyway i still have the advertisment clipping and here it is.
i owned one of these they are basically a kyosho pegasus. ive got the original cadet radio in mint condition still, waiting on an as new bandido to turn up on the bay.
A young kid at my track in 86 had one he raced for a whole yr . Never did a thing to it in the whole time eithier.
He even used silcone to form lugs on the rear tires. Was not really fast as he was lapped by the faster guys several times but the icarius did its job well withnot one DNF.
To me its a ugly duckling but thats not the point. It was a budget 2 WD and did a good job as it doesnt bounce every where with a independent rear end and oil shocks.
Man, would I love to get a Bandido like the one in the ad, just awesome.
I am currently building a new parts Pegasus and an almost correct Cosmo. also rebuilding a Pegasus runner.
Also waiting for an Icarus to arrive any day now.
I just love these cars and can't really describe why.
ah these cars i love em, dont know why either! definatly not a top end car, but a nice one to start off with or a shelfer.
i just got 2 from Gary (redscampi) , with those 2, i plan to make one nice one, and the other little less nicer.
i was kinda dissapointed when i saw the dog bone set up. it looks like they could strip out real easy , also the part on the trans that the dog bone slides in to , looks as if it could strip out easy too. id be too afraid to put in a race motor, so im just going to build them up and shelf them.
real nice cars actually, i like how they look, also its vintage , very cool little cars!
i might post a build thread for them, still in the process of making room and organizing stuff.
Hi.
I know what you mean with those dog bones. They are pretty cheap though.
I just made sure I have spares. I wish I took photos during my build.
Maybe I will the cosmo clone . My new built Pegasus is going to be a shelfer
the rebuild will be the runner.
Many years ago I almost considered buying this car purely from an advertisment clipping I had glued into my scrap book when i was a young teen.
I was saving up for my first real r/c buggy (Kyosho OPTIMA) and kinda glad i held it out.
Years later Ive...

Yep. These little cars get moving alright with a brushless.
They do have plastic shafts which do wear out if you leave the rear as standard.
I installed some screws to lower the rear end which levels the shafts a bit.
That helped a lot. Also the...
I got these 2 cars from redscampi in a trade. I plan to tear them down, clean all parts, and make one good one outta all the parts. also in a upcoming trade, I might be getting a few new parts , so with those I should be able to make at least one...

Looks like fun Matt! Get some plastic polish at the auto parts store and you can really get that plastic to shine. Removes some scratches too!
i got these from Gary (redscampi) in a trade, thanks gary! the 2 bandidos with the red tubs where completly stripped down and cleaned up. then i made one good one using all the parts from the 2. the best one is the one with the black body, next best...

The Kyosho Icarus was my first ever car than came the rc10 and the jrx-2
I put this here instead of other because it's a badge-engineered Kyosho Pegasus with some red parts. Hope that makes sense...
Anyway, I have always liked these Kyosho flexy-arm buggies, so when the opportunity came up to trade a disused Tamiya Fire...

To my surprise the gearboxes handle the power of not just the motor and lipo's but also the drag of the wet sand. Both Besty and my Bandido's have had no problems aside from the plastic driveshaft copping some extra wear.
I've rebuilt my gearbox and...
I have a Cox bandido and i was just currious if anyone new what the value of it is. i have the entire car, with original manuals,2batteries and a quick charger. only thing is i the front wheels twitch back and forth the when you turn it on (i think...

Apart from Kyosho spare parts, are there compatible dogbones and axle cup joints?
The original parts are expensive and hard to find.
Brand spankin' new. Shocks and trany are bone dry. I plan to paint the body when the humidity drops here in not so sunny Florida. This one will sit happily next to it's box, high above the reach of little hands.
