Frog VW bug *updated winter pics 2.11.10*
Here's a project I am working on. Inspired by many of the bug enthusiasts already here. I am putting together a brat rere with a monster beetle body.
This afternoon I worked on mounting the body to the chassis using existing body holes.
So I still have a ways to go but I think it's always toughest to get started. These side mounts are just mockup's I have a good friend that owns a metal-fab shop and powder-coats.
NEXT to do:
find better wheels
white letter tires/ replace front tires with smaller/narrow tire
find or fab cool looking rearend and front bumper
do a good clean paintjob (can't decide between clean and elegant or two-tone rally bug with numbers and such)
Wish me a good journey!

Re: Frog VW bug
Made some progress on the frog/scorcher: Prep and Painted. I had to get rid of some lines from the mould- silver probably would have been a better undercoat for the candy green- but it turned out really good. I need to score some parma "offroad" stickers sheet, do some touch ups- create some black numbers off of my wife's cricut machine- and clear coat.
Really like the way this is turning out- new rims are in order!

Re: Frog VW bug
Trying to come up with a way to make the rear end more realistic. Thinking about cutting out a proline engine campartment- but that's a waste of a perfectly good proline body. I emailed Maisto- for something they might have, no reponse... and I would like to make a sandscorcher frame work but still falls short...
What to do

How about something like this:

Here's the rest of the gallery:

Maisto 1/10 R/C Beetle engine, and a hacked up frog/brat crp front bumper.
This was my daughter's first official R/C car.

How did you get the scale motor?
Is it possible to order parts through Maisto?
I've got their VW Bus, but I'm not sure if I want to take the scale engine out of it for one of my other projects yet.

Re: Frog VW bug
I had to buy the whole car just for the engine, it finished off the project, then I went ahead and sold it...

Can you divulge the wheel/tire combo? I love the pre-runner look it has.tecnica2001 wrote:I had to buy the whole car just for the engine, it finished off the project, then I went ahead and sold it...

If it isn't broke, I haven't driven it yet.

Re: Frog VW bug
The tires are Tamiya Pajero BF Goodrich tires mounted on Modified Jakks Pacific Flywheels.
They don't sell the flywheels anymore.

Re: Frog VW bug
I thought they were flywheels. I had a crap load of them from my kids when I was building a scaler and I sold them all. Dammit. Was it hard to narrow the front tires?tecnica2001 wrote:The tires are Tamiya Pajero BF Goodrich tires mounted on Modified Jakks Pacific Flywheels.

Here's some recent pics- I had some specific logos made and decal'd it up...what do you think?!
up next I am gonna make a front and rear baja style bumper. I ordered the sand buggy type of tires- trying to get this all done before I go to Daytona next month- for beach blasting!

Re: Frog VW bug *updated winter pics 2.11.10*

The Frog makes a great chassis for a Baja Bug.
They should start a Baja Bug specific thread for all make & model conversions.
I love all the different Baja builds on here.
Have fun with it!
