I thought I would try my hand at welding a pan. This thing had 4 huge holes in it, and two extra holes. They are gone now. Got them mostly ground down, and need to mill it all flat. I didn't take good before shots like I wanted to, but here is an old picture from the seller. Whatchas think?
Ok, I cant figure out how to save a picture from an ebay auction, so here is the link. Its the silver pan.

Looks good, that also looks like my very old ( 1980's) tool box I had back then!
Nice job.

Nice job man. Some more sanding on that with some fine grit and you will have a super smooth chassis. A little polish and the thing will look like a mirror.

what did you use for filler? if you used 4043, if you try to anodize it, the filler won't color the same as the parent material.

I used 1100 rod. I think I might just powdercoat it. If I could anodize the exact color, I would probably go that route.

I still have a few holes to fill. And some will need redrilled because of how close they are to other holes. I wanted to see how well it would work first.

Sounds good and looks good!
Maybe you should fill in all of the holes that you do not plan to use - clean custom to match the cut down sides

I thought about that, but didn't know how that would look. And I dont really know what all would stay or go until I had it all put together. I guess I could mock it up?

Well you can decide if you are going to run an ESC, that would take care of 6 holes. Then decide how you are going to mount the battery and what size servo. I think it would look really nice, just don't forget the antenna
