MID OR LAZER?

Post by FasterLouder »

I was just given this...I was told it was a Turbo Optima Mid Custom Special, but I own a Turbo Optima Mid Special and this car has different A arms, steering knuckles and other tasty, carbon fibre parts,so I'm thinking it's a first edition Lazer.
Can anyone confirm this?
I really need to know what it is,so I can decide what to do with it!
Man,I now have a Mid Special,a Mid SE and now this...The front Tamiya high cap dampers are history, replaced with some sweet Kyosho Gold jobbies, and that mint Yokomo Pavidis wing is up for grabs,if anyone needs it.

You've got a Mk1 Lazer on your hands.

I would ask around about the TBG bodies before buying one. I've heard that they're a little sketchy on the details and the Lexan isn't always the best. I haven't had one in my hands but a few guys on here have. One of the guys on o0ple is going to be repro'ing the Parma Topcat body, I'd either wait for that or Marwan as I think he's also in the repro stages with a ZX-R shell.

I've had a few and the first I bought ws OK,but the more recent oneshave been really good.

Anyone know where I can find a repro decal sheet?

What are the correct rims for this car-the yellow Ultima Pro style ones,I'm guessing?

The ZX-R came with the 2.2" Yellow dish wheels whereas the ZX came with the wheels you're talking about (2.0"). I can't remember if they were white or yellow though.

Good to hear that TBG's new bodies are better, might be a viable option for my runner now :)

I think that car is a ZXR as it has ZXR steering, rear towers, after market woven chassis, caster blocks with added caster, and a few other goodies. It also has a Mid special or ZXS undertray. If you show us pics of the car w/o the rear gear cover, we could tell more easily.

Someone sure was drill happy with that car...Another old ex racer in the fleet.
Should be a relatively painless restoration, though.
Unlike the Mid SE I'm also doing.

This car is a bit of everything. Its possibly a mk1 zxr rather than a zx as the layshaft and slipper are from that as well as the steering silver brace and wishbones. Still radiocontrol zone has a very long thread about the lazer series and you can learn a lot relating to what you need to do to make it competitive today. Also info about shell i would try the zxs shell from http://www.kamtec.co.uk and is possibly still available online and all carbon fibre chassis and flat bits can still be bought from fibre-lyte (hansell composites in the uk) on their online website. They make a lot of CF items for a lot of manufacturers. Good luck and if you need help with this PM me.

Wow,thanks mate.
It needs a carbon front shock tower, for sure.
The car came,today.
It's in pretty nice condition,too.
The only wheels I have that fit and aren't on a car were these,so I went monster truck on it's ass!
I have some ZX R rims on the way, don't worry!

Just got my Lazer ZX shell fron TBG.

Nothing wrong with it. The cut lines are a little faint at the rear but are there. Got a wing, Undertray and gear cover as well.

Just waiting for my Lazer ZX5 decals to arrive from Dark designs.

Yes i know its for the ZX5 but i will be cutting out the nu 5 and will just say Lazer ZX in nice bold fluro yellow on my black shell.
