Re: New RC10 runner, for my son.

Post by fastang »

I went and watched a local race last week and there was a family of 5 there, mom, dad, and 3 kids, 2 boys and a girl. I talked to the dad at length about the trucks he was racing when he finally explained to me that he didn't run the two Slashes we were talking about. I gave him the weird look when he told me His two sons raced them and I swear neither of them were over 5-6 years old. I thought to myself, I'd hate to be in the heat they were in. Well, I couldn't have been more wrong. These two little boys surprised the hell out of me. Neither of them won their heat but did they ever put on a show! And I don't mean in a bad way. These kids could drive! The best part was the banter on the driver stand between the two. One of the boys would say hurry up Bobby (don't remember their actual names) Im coming! Bobby would reply you'll never catch me! It was so funny!

There's no doubt in my mind these young boys will grow up to be the best children/young adults any parent could ever ask for. I firmly believe the saying, families that race together stay together. After their heat I went back to the family's pit and all 5 of them were wrenching on the trucks. The little girl (the youngest of the 3) was even getting dirty. Her job was to paint the letters on the tires white. The father and I noticed she was more or less painting near the letters  but he said great job Susy. They look great. I shook the father's hand and told him it would be my dream to have a family as great as his and the RC's had nothing to do with it. He knew exactly what I meant and said thank you!

Miguel,

Great kids! Love the vids and trust me it goes fast...very fast. I've got one in college and my youngest is in high school. It seems like I just brought them home from the hospital a couple of months ago. Just enjoy every phase of their growing up. Kids are such a blessing.
Remember it's either a runner or a shelfer. Everything else is just parts.

I thought I would keep this thread going for him.

Well, we went to the parking lot around our house for a run. I fixed up a Traxxas Stampede for a friend (testing time) and took the Losi sedan for a spin.

Every time this kid grabs that remote I start trembling and we end up with something broken.
Today's carnage:

But now we are good to GO!

I am planning on one day giving him a bunch of pats and some tools with a RC10 Manual and see what happens. If I still have parts left  .

Awesome vids and RC10 build.

It made me think for a moment, "I think that I may have enough JRX2 parts around to get one running for Aodhan (turning 6 on Thurs)", but I regained my senses and recommitted myself to the Evader ST plan. At least I'll be able to get front arms and knuckles for those for the next couple of years...

...although the buggy thing is more primordial for me. And that B3-clone Thunder Tiger Phoenix is, what, $99 ready to run?

And I can run the B2-B3 style rims on Dad's vintage Losi's(!)

The Traxxas XL-5 ESC / Titan motor combo with training mode (50% forward and reverse speed with full brakes) seems like a deal compared to sourcing replacement vintage parts.

I hear you with kids and flame paint schemes ... your response was the same as mine:

"Sure, dude."

It was a battle with my self because I found this car on Craig's list and went to get it for myself and brought the kid with me and he was all going crazy with the car so I let him have it  . I was going to get him a new Traxxas slash but after picking this RC10 up and looking at his face all exited I could not take it from him  .

Now he is the only one running a white and gold car in my house. I think it is worth it for him to learn with a classic RC off road car, after all his dad has a bunch of them in the shelf. Eventually we will have to go with black parts; I already have extra black arms and some other parts for him. And eventually if we start racing he might be wanting to get some other car.

I started my boy bashing around the house with an RTR B4, but he grew tired of it quickly not running well in the grass. So we sold it an picked up an RTR T4, much much better in the grass, and got him to the track a few times. He broke almost everything imaginable on the T4, he DNF'd almost every single time he hit the track. So one heat I was wrenching on his truck still and told him to drive my Slash...after about 2 minutes my buddy calls me to the track to watch him...dominating. He drove the wheels off the thing and finished the heat in 3rd (he was 6 at the time and had only finished one other race ever...). So the T4 got sold and a Slash was in the future for him. He still bashes with the Slash, but is now racing a FT T4 he won in a raffle (while racing my back up Blitz).

Now I am building him a goldie to race with me (he is 8 now and learning throttle control much better, but still squares off corners). We only run about 10 times a year (at a track), but that Slash must have 100K miles on it around the house.

Miguel, keep the controller in his hand as long as possible...and keep him away from XBOX/PS3/WII...that is the latest battle. Which controller he wants to hold.

good stories, all of 'em!! I have my little guy who's turning 3 running my old grasshopper piece-mealed back together running a venom 55t crawler motor and duratrax brushed esc. I got info from one of the guys on here about the tower 2.4Ghz radio, it's small enough that he can handle it, and he's suprisingly good at general control on the lawn. At least I think so for turning 3 in a week!
