hmmm...ZX5 has a 60.5 also....I really need to measure it out, I want to use stock rear carriers, I dont want to loose any width (FWIW, Slash carriers are narrower )

You will need the carriers with an extra pin-hole (I think traxxas 4tec) to keep the bones parallel to the arms. If you don't raise the axle, the cvd's will get pressed in the outdrives when the wheel travels up.

These are the stock RB5 axles with the included blue 2mm spacer. The RB5 SP axles don't have this spacer and the hex would sit closer to the bearing. With my wheels that was not working.
I don't have the proline axles , nor B4 wheels to try it out, sorry

Those are the 62.5, they look a touch deep in the outdrives too, maybe the 60.5 is the way to go? I can find those under $20, but the 62.5s are $30+, then the proline axles are another 20-30...wife is gonna love me...

Ed, do you have the part # for the ultima outdrive cups? I'm sure my search is wrong on ebay, I didnt find any.

HPI Racing Heavy-Duty Cup Joint 5x10x18mm D Cut/Silver
with their dual set screw they're even better adapted to the traxaas diff outdrive axles
Honestly, I don't hink you want to try 60.5 mm: yoou don't want the spherical part to sit in the conical area of the cup.

Gotcha...I can probably get the HPI parts at the LHS. I will work on this in the next couple weeks. I will update my rebuild thread.

Sofar there's not been much of 'what'sold but much newer now' builds in this part of the forum: real shame with so many new parts fitting their design.

So...I was talking to a buddy of mine (non RC) and he wants to see a rear axle. He thinks they can be chucked up in a lathe and turned down (after the pinhole) to 3/16" for the B4 wheels. After eyeballing them and the Kyosho/Proline axles, I think I will drop a pair off at the maintenance shop at work .

That should be easy enough. Traxxas metal is usually not that hard or tough. just a little bit of forethought necessary to grab the axle in the chuck, and not the plastic universal.

OH, I almost forgot....another option is to use losi rear axles, you can mix and match the universals with a tiny bit of tweaking, and run a standard(as opposed to metric) rear hub carrier (losi or associated) with standard bearings.

that is what I am doing on my weapon X project if I ever finish it.

JK are you're talking about turning the stock RB5 cvd axles into proline compatible ones?
Ifos; you may want tocheck if the hole for the crosspin is in the right poistion. If it is too close to the bearing face you'll end up squeezing the wheel aginst the axle carrier.

PS: you did notice the HPI outdrives use 3mm setscrews and they're not included?

No, I was talking about turning the stock traxxas axles...but I have gone way off in a different direction...just waiting for my slow connection to upload to photobucket...then pics galore.

well there's allways the cheap option I'm using (I only put the RB5 parts on to show you guys).
The stock ultima dogbones and HPI axle (5X37 or 38mm something) work real fine.
The original ultima axles wouldn't: the conical hex would push on the bearings before it locks on the axle.
