New RC10 Rear tower design...
Re: New RC10 Rear tower design...
I did some work on a tower that has the shock mounting points 3/16" lower. I'll probably need to do some testing to be sure I got the holes correct and make sure they offer enough adjustability (I don't want a million holes, but I don't want to have zero options).
Here's a comparison between the regular tower and the lower tower.

I have access to a good bit of G10. What is it worth, by say, square inch.? I have some pieces big enough for Chassis', some pieces just right for Towers, and some just right for Batt Hold Downs.

Whats it worth? I currently source .125 G10/FR4 for around $12 per sq ft. plus shipping. The .093 is a little less. Also this is in relativelly small quantities (several square feet). If you want only one square foot at a time, it will be less than $20 per sq ft plus shipping.-Jeff

What the difference in the epoxy types for G-10. I've seen FR4 and phenolic. Just wondering if there's any major strength differences.

Off hand I don't remember specifically. I don't think there is too much difference, the differences are in their chemical resistance and electrical properties. Phenolic is a different type of resin, and is usually only used with natural fiber cloths (paper, cotton, etc.) It is often used in electrical applications. The FR4 refers to the flame resistance of the material. G10 is available in FR and non FR rated material. -Jeff

I decided that I wanted a new style RC10 rear tower, and wanted to incorporate a few changes, something that would make it a little more modern. Firstly, I wanted to be able to lower the body more on the tower, so I lowered the "mounting" area on the tower by 1/4 in. This will allow me slam the body a little lower. Second I added another set of holes further in (compared to the AE Worlds tower) for shock mounting. It now has 5 locations. And lastly, I added wing mounting holes/options for some of the off the shelf wing mounts available today (b4, and RB5/Lazer). The B4 wing mounts will require a 2nd mounting mod that ties in to motor plate, but many here are currently doing it already, thanks to the adaptation made popular by Jeff Harris. BTW -The 4 outside shock mounting holes are the same as the AE Worlds tower. This tower is .112 Quasi-isotropic C/F fron DA graphite, but I plan on producing them in woven finish and fiberglass as soon as I can do some shopping. I think they will be in the $15 to $20 range, but it will depend on my materials sourcing
. LMK what you think and if there are any changes that might seem prudent. -Jeff

Looks great. On my personal cars, I have found that with todays tire selection (read more traction) that I have been laying my shocks in all the way, and running heavier springs (AE silvers). However, you do have a few holes to choose from
