New RC10 Rear tower design...

Post by Jay Dub »

Well I have finally got back to my RC To-Do list, and this has been one of the projects making me itch. I decided that I wanted a new style RC10 rear tower, and wanted to incorporate a few changes, something that would make it a little more modern. Firstly, I wanted to be able to lower the body more on the tower, so I lowered the "mounting" area on the tower by 1/4 in. This will allow me slam the body a little lower. Second I added another set of holes further in (compared to the AE Worlds tower) for shock mounting. It now has 5 locations. And lastly, I added wing mounting holes/options for some of the off the shelf wing mounts available today (b4, and RB5/Lazer). The B4 wing mounts will require a 2nd mounting mod that ties in to motor plate, but many here are currently doing it already, thanks to the adaptation made popular by Jeff Harris. BTW -The 4 outside shock mounting holes are the same as the AE Worlds tower :). This tower is .112 Quasi-isotropic C/F fron DA graphite, but I plan on producing them in woven finish and fiberglass as soon as I can do some shopping. I think they will be in the $15 to $20 range, but it will depend on my materials sourcing . LMK what you think and if there are any changes that might seem prudent. -Jeff

I think it's sharp. I am in for one in graphite and one in carbon.

.112 is the thickness in thousandths of an inch. I already have a longer front tower for the B4 shocks, it is modeled after the Worlds front tower. I have thought about a different "style", but I am also planning a little suprise for the front end of the RC10, so I may have to wait to see if it is something I want to work on just yet. -Jeff

That looks great. I would be interested in a front rear set in white-ish, green-ish fiberglass for B4 shocks all around.

there's a couple front shock towers out there now to use the .89 b4 shocks on the front of an rc10. but i find it odd that no one has made a lower rear tower so you can use 1.18 b4 rear shocks on the back.

the 1.32 is the standard rear. but most people use 1.02 shafts. so that means people are building rear shocks piece by piece, or buying 1.32 kits as well as a pair of 1.02 shafts to replace the 1.32's in the kit. seems to me that it'd be much easier to just get the 1.18 shock kit................. and have someone offer a direct fit shock tower for them. not to mention, the tower would need to be about 3/16" lower, and will help with getting the "slammed" look.

just my thoughts........

I should be in for one, graphite looks nice but I'm sure carbon fiber would be nice as well. I'm not sure which I'd like more.

I would definitely pick one up when you have them ready to go out. Looks great.
