Ok, so the bug is biting harder. Pics of my 2nd gold pan follow.

It fit my bill to have a pavement worthy car separate from a dirt car. I think this is a CE, can you all help confirm? What era did black plastic bits come into play? The ESC is a Novak T-4. I get the impression this is a '92-'94 or so kit. The trans feels good, but I haven't run the motor yet. The pan has a slight remainder of someone writing the date 12/21/06 with a Sharpie. Also the name "Kayla B" is on the gear cover. Based on the lack of significant scratches on the bottom, and the state of the little foam donuts on the ball joints, I get the impression this kit was built in the past year and not run very much. Then again, that messed up axle has me wondering.

I'm thinking about keeping this body around or putting it on my older car. Then this car will get some sort of street car body. For now, a swap to a Dean's connector & I'm looking forward to gettin' this on the road!

That's a final version CE. Giveaways are the trimmed noseplate (cut in a triangle at the rear like a World's Car), "C" chassis and all black plastic (including the T2 style lower spring cups ). The Firehawk motor is nearly era correct, but it would have come with either a Reedy TRU-Stock or DS Spec motor originally. I don't think the Viper body is original, nor are the WHITE RPM gear cover, MIP steering, TQ wheels or Puretech battery strap although most of those are desirable items... The T4 is a little early for that car, too. My guess is it's from late 1996...all the factory items point to that fact.

Thanks for input, temple. You have quite the 'database' of the details of the generational differences (as noted from other posts, too). I'm the same way with '67 & '68 Camaros, but haven't been around the vast array of early buggies.

So this is going to be a runner then? It looks very nice... and yeah that stub axle is wrecked. Could there be something sticking in the tranny or bearings that might cause uneven wear like this? Maybe check it out before you run it.

Yea, runner. I haven't moved into any shelf queens yet (a little rich for my budget at this time). I'd like to find a way to protect the pan from major gouges, otherwise I don't mind beating up already used parts. The tranny feels good, but I'm gonna go through it just to check out the inner workings of the stealth. I haven't had one of these in my hot little hands yet.

I've been thinking dirt oval body for this one. We used to run a dirt oval late model, I'd try to replicate it. Probably need to find the short rear shock tower and shocks, eh?

You could make your own tower. And front shocks should not be hard to find. What color would you like the tower to be? Maybe I could help you out for a small fee

My "runners" spend many more days on the shelf than they get raced I wish it was the opposite way but I still like to see them around rather than stocked NIB.

I rebuilt my runner and like it so much, it stays on the shelf. Besides, I got a B3 to bash and got some gas stuff to play with.

I like building and looking at the RC10s more than running them. I might throw one on the street every once in a while, but most of my cars sit on the shelf.

or maybe something by mcallister. Too many are for 200mm road cars. I'm kicking myself because I saw the right one the other day, but I can't remember where. I'll have to flip thru all 1 million pages of bodies on tower to find it.

I need a nice shelf . At the rate I've been going lately, all the cars have been doing is sitting on the work bench.

I'm finding that I like them clean and ready to run, definitely not in a box or taken apart (except when actively working on one). At the same time, I don't want them so nice that I would be afraid to take them out for a spin...

just as a heads up, if you don't plan on changing your front shock tower, i wouldn't recommend the c.w. body in that link. i don't think it'll give you enough room for the body to sit down far enough before it hits the top of the tower.

JK, yes, another mcallister. I like their designs.

Mr. Ed, I checked out tulsa's truck, not a bad suggestion. I don't think I'd change it too much, just the body...especially since I might just follow BH's suggestion and leave this new buggy as is. After scr8p pointed out the front tower, then it made even more sense.

This car had unpainted nose tubes and I had black ones on my older buggy, so now they are swapped. Black looks better with the black plastic, as does the unpainted tubes with the white plastics. I also went thru the trans for a quick check and was surprised to find bronze bushings. I gave it a minor cleaning and slapped it back together for now. I've got some radio batteries charging, so we'll see how she runs in an hour or so.
