1991 Prototype Worlds Car Pics
This buggy belongs to Gary Kyes. It's sitting on his shelf and has been since the 91 Worlds so to say the least it has a bit of dust on it. Gary has been with the Company since the beginning of Team Losi. I didn't start working for Losi until 1994 so I don't know much about it, other than it appears to have been the prototype for the eventual XX buggy. Hope you enjoy the pics. Hard to believe that 20 years have gone by since this car was last raced!

Very nice pics indeed! That helps a lot as the ones in the magazines didn't show much detail on the front end. I actually had been planning on getting back on this project in the next couple of days.

Rich,
That is a very cool car. Love seeing the vintage cars. Do you know if there are any of the prototype XX4 buggies raced at the 96' ROAR Nats in Pennsylvania still around? Any pics of those original prototype cars? I remember it was very hush at the race.
Thanks!
Chris

Gil Jr or even Jon Anderson may still have one. If I remember correctly we only built 3 using the magnesium chassis. I haven't seen one in years...definitely do not have one in the office anymore.chriswolfson wrote:Rich,

Thank You Rich for sending this and waiting for the others to come hopefully... These kind of real race cars are very interesting, especially prototypes.
Are those rear tires also prototypes? My friend gave to me some Losi's prototype tires from 1991 Worlds, very similar curved profile as those and Jammin step-pins, only much longer spikes, 6 in a row if I remember correctly and without any texts on sidewall.

Not to sound nosy, seeing the gear cover, was there a hydra drive fitted and was it the same as all others? Thanks for all the great photos and info.
