Trip to work
Since I got a new truck and it's now summer I decided to take a trip through the Canadian Rocky Mountains to get to work today. I though I would share some photos...some wildlife, some stupid people taking pictures of wildlife and of course so pics of my new truck

Re: Trip to work
those tires are huge, 1000/50R25, lol rolling on 25" rims...at least the tires match the rims size though. I cant stand seeing trucks or SUVs with bandaids for tires.
Some more wildlife
This was at the Columbia Ice Fields in Alberta, Canada encase anyone wants to know. Some more wildlife

Man that's awesome!
North America is an amazing continent! Easy to take that for granted.
EDIT: Nice truck too by the way! Love the black rims!

Seems odd that I'm watching Beowulf as I saw this thread. Even in beautiful 1080p it just doesn't compare, even though the landscape is similar...you lucky mother fu...

Re: Trip to work

I even more lucky than you think...not only do I work in a beautiful place, I live in an entire different landscape that is just as beautiful. I live on the east coast of Canada. Where I grew up in Nova Scotia, the people who determine the next Wonder of the World are seriously considering my area, The Bay of Fundy to be the 8th Wonder of the World because of highest tides in the world.

Here is a quick blurb about the Bay of Fundy
It's been quoted on one of the tourism sites that an estimated 100 billion tonnes of sea water travels in and out of the bay each day
This is quoted from Wikipedia
"The Bay of Fundy is known for its high tidal range. The quest for world tidal dominance has led to a rivalry between the Minas Basin in the Bay of Fundy and the Leaf Basin in Ungava Bay, over which body of water lays claim to the highest tides in the world, with supporters in each region claiming the record.
The Canadian Hydrographic Service finally declared it a statistical tie, with measurements of a 16.8 metre (55.1 feet) tidal range in Leaf Basin for Ungava Bay and 17 meters (55.8 feet) at Burntcoat Head for the Bay of Fundy.[5] The highest water level ever recorded in the Bay of Fundy system occurred at the head of the Minas Basin on the night of October 4–5, 1869 during a tropical cyclone named the “Saxby Gale”. The water level of 21.6 metres (70.9 feet) resulted from the combination of high winds, abnormally low atmospheric pressure, and a spring tide."

Re: Trip to work
Uh, Yup. That trumps my morning commute by a bit! But I fear that Canadians might have too much discretionary income because those are really nice boats for a lake that size-

Re: Trip to work
at least the lake will get bigger as the hours go by.
Maybe I could drain the water out of the lease the rig is on and help out with that. It's a bit muddy on-site...the winding hill clime I had to do in 2 foot ruts was fun though

Re: Trip to work
very cool. the truck and background seems like they're in a commercial.
that foto of the people right up against the bear freaks me out. i could tell you some stories from yosemite. one that ended in tears with some people taking pictures, a bear, and someone holding their lunch temporarily.

If it seems commercial then I guess I have to make some mods to the trucklittleVETTE wrote:very cool. the truck and background seems like they're in a commercial.

Here are a couple things I want to do to it. Eventually, install ALL PRO bumpers. He let his wife drive to take photos

As far as the bear goes, I had a telescopic lens. Your story sound similar, but with a very different ending. I'm glad nothing nasty happened for me.

Re: Trip to work
When we were up in canada year ago the guy at the lodge told us about some tourist that thought it was cool to stop on te side of the road and feed a bear m&ms. The problem was he didnt have an exit plan for when he ran out of candy. Luckily he got to live to tell other people about his stupidity but it did require a hospital visit.

What body?, what do you mean?tsan wrote:Nice photos! What body do you use?
Right now I use the under exercised, slight beer bellied one with a little insulation body. But I hope to change it once I can figure out how to stop being lazy and drink less beer

Oh, maybe camera body, lol. A Nikon D60, which seems to do almost everything I need it to do. I wish it had a bulb setting though, and it would be nice if it displayed the photo on the LCD before you took the picture, but all in all, a good camera

ha, that sounds about par for my course, too. For me the problem is more stuff like pork fried rice than beer.vintage AE wrote: Right now I use the under exercised, slight beer bellied one with a little insulation body. The only time I use the live view function is when I am doing close up/macro shots with a tripod. My screen lets me zoom in 10 times, making it easier to get a more accurate focus.vintage AE wrote:I wish it had a bulb setting though, and it would be nice if it displayed the photo on the LCD before you took the picture, but all in all, a good camera![]()
if you don't have to hold down the shutter button, you can use the 2 second self timer. That way you don't move the camera when the shutter is open during long exposures.vintage AE wrote:Twilight photos and moving star photos are out of the question until I get a wireless remote for it. Even then I think I will have to hold the shutter open til I am done with the exposure.
