A Hot Trick Optima to go with my Ultima :)
A Hot Trick Optima to go with my Ultima :)
I purchased this from Emerson after agonizing over it for a month or so. I'm sure some of you were watching it too. I thought it would look good next to my Hot Trick Ultima (It does! ) I would have really liked to have his Hot Trick 834b as well but someone thankfully beat me to the punch! The car is in great shape overall, needs front shocks and a body and some tlc. I think the front shock tower is a new Lohas unit. Can you dye these rims after removing the plating? I'll probably replace them with aluminum eventually but if they will accept dye they'll work for the time being. Emerson was kind enough to throw in a set of his Lohas rear arms as a bonus. Now I'll have to buy the fronts! I'd also like to get a Hot Trick nose brace too at some point. What body fits well on these cars? Was there a special one?

One more question. I notice this chassis has notches in the rear. Some I've seen have them while others don't. What are they for?

There's only a few things keeping that from being a complete Hot Trick Optima...the front & rear red aluminum arms. I happen to have 'em. PM me if you're interested, but be forewarned that they're not cheap--the last few sets I saw on eBay sold for over $50 a pair.
EDIT: They're not trailing arms as shown by mikedealer, they're easy bolt-on swaps for the original Optima control arms.

trailing arms are extra-ordinarily rare also, i can only recall 1 new, and 1 used car with them in the last few years. they were probably junk to begin with and didnt sell lol

I may take you up on that Marc. Thanks for the tip! Was there a Hot Trick bumper, or bumperette as well for this car?Coelacanth wrote:There's only a few things keeping that from being a complete Hot Trick Optima...the front & rear red aluminum arms. u could cut one yourself if you have some saw skills, trace out a parma bumper or something and cut

Im not sure how these kits perform on the track but they are 'UBER' kool man.
I loved the RCCA article they did on the Optima all those years ago. It was a real departure from the standard cars that were being wheeled around at the time.
Great example!

Re: A Hot Trick Optima to go with my Ultima :)
Thanks mate,
I built it up with all brand new parts, has a ball diff in the rear and the one-way diff in the front. Have fitted front and rear Uni's since the pics were taken a few years ago.
Was going to fit Gold shocks to it - but kinda spoilt the "Red Devil" theme I was going for! Might strip some and re-anodise them still - just no time..........just as well I do this hobby for me and not someone elses time expectations!!
I still haven't decided on a body for it - although the Associated Sidewinder is probably going to win - cause that's what most drivers with modded Optima's used over here BITD. We used to cut the back off the body (just before the front of the rear shock tower), and mount a dirty great wing behind the shock tower. That made them look alot like some of the Baja cars back in the day. Reckon it would look pretty wicked with the trailing arms etc glistening in the sun.
Cheers

I like the front damper mounts and geometry on this kit. I think it would perform better than the original kit design.
