A slightly different Blackfoot III...

Post by BloodClod »

Hi guys,

Locally it's just been rain rain and more rain so more time is spent building and working on kits.

Here's my Blackfoot III which I recently built... and I also took time to remove one of my pet peeves about the completed model.

Can anyone see how this BF3 is different from stock? :)

No stickers?

Seriously I have no idea, but I really only know about the BF1.

well it looks like you put oil shocks on it and the red rings on the wheels arent on their, different body posts on the front. by the way you need to cut them off

lol. that's for sure and I'm no fan of the stock sticker set. :)

But that wasn't the pet-peeve I was referring to.

The car does need to be finished up with electronics, a paint job and some decals though!

BINGO!

While I like the look of the bare chassis, the wheelbase didn't look right under that pretty Blackfoot shell. So the plan was to try to make this modern interpretation of the Blackfoot look a tad more like the original by shortening it's wheelbase.

So currently the wheelbase is identical to the original truck's. While I was at it I fashioned some shock towers to fit some TRF dampers so I could ditch the stock ones... think the longer shocks are also more fitting for a monster truck like this.

when they came out with the blackfoot extreme, i thought it looked awful..... using that body on the wild dagger chassis. when there was talk about the blackfoot 3, i thought well...... maybe this time they'll get it right since the re-re brat and frog had come out after the extreme. then i saw what it was gonna look like and was quite disappointed.

Worked on a set of new front and rear wishbones which shortened the wheelbase... I'll snap a couple of pics and post them up later.

I wanted to narrow the truck too but wasn't very successful trying to find approx 55mm long dogbones which mated with the Tamiya outdrives.

The other option of shortening the wheelbase would be to do a new chassis but the front end would have been more complicated to pull off.

I don't have an extreme but looking at the pictures the wheelbase looked a bit off, though IMO the same Wild Dagger wheelbase somehow looked even worse with the original Blackfoot body.

Much happier with the revised wheelbase. Now I'm going to stick a brushless motor in her and take her flying.

Just received my Parma lexan Blackfoot shells too so I can bash with a little less fear.

I'm no expert but I'm guessing the third blackfoot to use this shell?
