6 gear outdrive problem

Hi all,
I am having a problem with one of my 6 gear's outdrives. I just installed new bearings, and now, whenever one of the outdrives gets pushed in a little, it stops spinning freely. If I pull it out a bit, it is fine. Could something be improperly assembled?

Sounds to me like the c-clip has popped out and binding with the spline plate.

That would make sense, except I forgot to mention, I discovered the problem while the transmission was disassemed to install bearings. I made sure to check the c clip. Thanks, though.

How many bearings in each outdrive? If you can push and pull the outdrives it sounds like there is something missing

Does anyone know if the nylon washer that goes between the 6 gear outdrive and the dog bone is really necessary? I've rebuilt the transmission with new black idlers and outdrive bearings, but it didn't have the nylon inserts. This was a craigslist...

Thanks for the link. I do already have the springs in the axles, and I've been running it without the nylons and haven't had the bones slip out yet. I just didn't know if it would do any damage to the outdrive cups or anything without them. But...

Is there a source for these? In this parts list on the Associated website it looks like they are only part of a (long discontinued no doubt) kit with a bunch of other clips and fasteners (asc6634).

Hey All,

I spent a lot of time replacing bushings for bearings in a 6 gear.

On one of the out drives, its motion springs back in the other direction when moving it slowly. I tried 2 sets of bearings, with the same outcome. The out drive is clean...

I've done a search, but can't find the definitive answer. What size hex fits the bolt that holds 6 gear outdrives in place?

My current allen key that fits is rounded off, so I need to buy a new one but don't know what size!
