identifying yz10 model

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum. I recently came across this yokomo 4wd buggy and was hoping to ID it to be able to source some correct replacement parts. I took the under tray off and the main plate looks cherry. The mixture of shocks seems odd to me but maybe that's normal? aluminum front spindles and rear uprights appear to be the same units. Any input or knowledge would be appreciated. Thanks

Pretty sure that's the official names of the similar yet different models.

Just curious - is this a stock arrangement for the US version, or were the shocks just changed out because they were better? I ask because you see a lot of them like this.

I think it's safe to say the AE shocks were never kit standard items (happy to be proven wrong though). However, even though the purple/silver shocks look the same as the 870c (Japanese 87 version) the internal seal arrangement had been changed (more reliable).

Thanks Jason. I had always assumed they were just changed out. But I also assumed there were no physical differences between the YZ10 and the 870c other than the shell. Didn't know about the shock seals, thanks!

No problems at all Gary. I'm far from an authority on these cars but you pick up things as you go

Released in 1987- 870c came with the canopy type shell and pink 2.0" wheels.

Released in 1988- YZ10 came with the Protech4 shell as the U.S market was said to prefer this style of bodyshell (I think). It also came with the white 2.0" wheels but also the revised shock seal system. These were a big improvement on the earlier shocks (IMO).

Pretty sure the 870c sold most places outside the USA.

Well, for my part, I like both shells equally. Now when it comes to the Salute...uh, that's a bit far out there for my tastes.
