Porsche VAILLANT: the real deal!

Post by Asso_man! »

Hey guys (and gals?), thought I would post some pictures of one of the very few 1/1 Porsche VAILLANT existing on this small planet as I recently stumbled on one while going to an event here in Brussels, Belgium, at the AUTOWORLD museum. You can take a virtual tour on tehir website if further interested (http://www.autoworld.be/) they have over 250 collection cars. There were of course many other fantastic cars and I just didn't have time nor memory card enough to shoot them all. Like many little boys, I've always been in love with the 911 Carrera and still hope I'll be able to afford one before being retired, I would even prefer to have an oldie. The VAILLANT race version is of course a legend in European race history but also, as we all know, in the radio control car niche :D So here is the real deal and a few extras below from our national museum:

JAGUAR E-type (light race version with aluminium body panels), my all time favorite car:

That's an oval-piston Honda NR-750, in the first photo.
It has the valvetrain of a tiny V-8 engine, but,
neighboring cylinders are siamesed together to make a V-4
(4 cam, 32 valve) with four oval-shaped pistons (instead of eight smaller round pistons).

The bike, nor the engine, ever really made it to normal production...

Looks like we have a bike expert onboard, nicely spotted!

I forgot to include these pics of a very special race car. Back to the Future anyone?

Nice catch! Just noticed the bike behind the Porsche in the first shot! I swore I remembered these bikes to have ceramic pistons? Honda did some hella-cool stuff like this bike and the nsx proto before they went all green and flowery

the problem with those bike oval pistons is they could not get good sealing with the rings. Since you had straight sections and curved sections, the rings would expand at different rates along it's circumference leading to poor sealing. Pretty neat overall though.

It was a neat bike , also with the undertail exhaust and single-sided swingarm . I believe it was about $50,000 when it was introduced in the early nintey's . My favorite bike would have to be the Honda RC30....spent a lot of time staring at that one at the shop .
