Gallop?

Post by cooltoys »

Found this one a while back at a hobby shop. Been sittingon the shelf. Haven't done anything yet on it. Looks like its never been run. Just weird glue on the tires... I thinks its a gallop? Correct me if i'm wrong...

Nice to know exactly what it is.. I bought it cause it looked a little different. At first i thought the rear tires/suspension is broken... Even the owner thought there was something wrong with it... We almost tried to straighten it out good thing we didn't force it. The buggy steers on the rear i guess..
I'll get a body for it soon...

How much does one like this cost to buy?

Looking at that one rear wheel, it looks like it might have a broken hub/carrier or perhaps a part of the control arm broke where a hinge pin slots in to hold the hub/carrier in place. Take a picture with the wheel off and we'll see what's damaged. Looks to be in pretty good shape other than that. Yes, this car has 4-wheel steering, as you thought.

I've never seen one running in real life either, but I saw the Kyosho promo vid (I worked at a hobby store at the time) and read a review of it. With a standard Mabuchi 540 motor and 4WDS, it cornered and handled great...almost TOO great, perhaps. It was rather heavy and clunky and certainly not a racer, nothing like the lean & mean Optima & Javelin of that time. Because they cornered so well, they would be a bit less "fun", IMHO...at least with a 540 can motor and 4WS, you wouldn't get the rooster tails of dirt and fishtailing rear-end that's so fun with RWD cars and cars like the Optima/Javelin.

Not sure on what it's worth but the Gallops & Progress aren't as sought after as their 4WD front-only-steering cousins. Regardless, it's a very nice car to add to a collection, and they look great when restored. 8)

The Gallop was a evolution Kyosho's first competion 4WD the Progress.

The Gallop came out after with some updates & then the MK2 that you have.

The next 4wd after the Progress/Gallops was the original Optima.

bodies from there are approx. $40 shipped for most of them but then don't come with window masks...
