Stealth Outdrive shortage

Post by esaresky75 »

Since the 2.25 outdrives are discontinued (ASC6577 & 6578), I was wondering what the difference(s) are between them and ASC7667 & 7668 (RC10GT Stealth)?

GT diff gear is 52 tooth which means it's got a noticeably larger diameter than the RC10's 45 tooth diff. The B2/B3/T3 diff gear is closer in size but also too big.

I'd love to see a custom/aftermarket aluminum Stealth transmission case meant for the 2.60 diff gear and B4/GT/etc outdrives.

*cough* Paging Chris from Rogue...

Then again, I'm probably the ass who bought all the remaining outdrives he could find on the internet :D

I think with a little customizing GT/T2 outdrives could be made to work with a 2.25 diff.

The best path is to machine or grind 2.6 trans out drives down to 2.25 size. It's doable but not trivial.

Not without significant machining. There's a 3/16" difference in the dia. of a 2.6 outdrive and a 2.25 one. In fact the base of the 2.6 outdrive is a hair short of being as tall as the 45t diff gear.

Then there's also the size of the diff rings to deal with since you'd also have to machine the inner lip of the GT outdrive to fit a 2.25 diff ring that's also 3/16" shorter at the inner dia. than the 2.6 diff ring.

I took a Thunder Tiger Outdrive and used my dremel to grind it down to the right size. Works and fits perfectly. It was this part and you can see the line on the outer edge. That's literally exactly what you need to grind off and then it's exactly the same size as the stealth outdrive.

I would take a pic but can't find what I did with it, lol.

Yeah, that sounds about right. To me that is not too much to replace impossible to find parts.
