RC10 Caddy identification

Post by marlo »

I, by no means, claim to be an expert, but I do have some knowledge on the topic. It's the little minute details that have me stumped but make all the difference in the world, at least to me. The question lies, specificly on shock towers, which one is correct? Rear 4 hole or 2 hole? In my research, mainly based on this forum's "history of the RC10" there is a photo of a Caddy pre-89 RC10 rear bulk head with long wing tubes that shows a 2 hole rear shock tower. My car came with a 4 hole. I am well aware that AE had many changes and mix match of parts throughout the product run of these cars. In the photo attached you will see a 2 hole rear shock tower that I added after the fact and need to know if that is correct to the car or should I put a 4 hole back on? Please feel free to point out any other irregularities that would otherwise compromise the title of this being a Cadillac 10. Please note that the tranny brace does not have a counter sunk hole, is heavy A-stamped, Cadillac labelled motor. If more pics are needed of specific areas please let me know. Thank you, Marlo

if that car came out of that box with a 4 hole rear tower, wouldn't that one be correct then? :)

well, if it was built from a new kit, i highly doubt it was switched. if it was pieced together, then maybe you could question it.

and it looks like the spring cups are the slotted version which would make the four hole tower correct.

i tried finding pics of that late caddy that flipwilis sold the other month with the short wing tube bulkhead. i was curious to see what tower was on it. but they're gone from the bst.

i know yours has the long tubes, but i just wanted to see.

You never know with Associated. I had a weird one not long ago. Picked up a team car that was missing a bunch of parts, but in one sealed bag was this:

Never seen a black team car with black components. Musta been one of the very last to leave the building

I don't think it was pieced together, I've looked this thing over with a magnifying glass, all looks well (ie rust where it should be, box manuals ,correct vintage body, lube, extra misc e clips, bags, etc..) but who knows. The real question is not what I have correct, but what is accepted as the correct tower in the hobby.

Well another thing to check is the thickness, glass pattern, edge finish and gloss level of it compared to the front tower. They should be similar.

They are very close , I did check, Good thinking. Almost the same amount of scuffs as well, shine even in comparison. etc.

going by that logic, you would (in a sense) put the wrong tower on your car because in rod's "25 year" thread it says all of the caddys came with a 2 hole tower? what sense does that make? it sure doesn't help to show some of the running changes of the rc10.

why don't you accept the fact that your car came with a 4 hole rear tower and put it back on?

I have two A stamps on the shelf . Both built from nib kits and never run. One has the bulkhead with long wing tubes the other with short tubes. Both have the 4 hole tower . Both kits have the caddy label .
