You don't need a Stealth for brushless/lipo. Just put some steel idlers in the 6 gear. You can modify a pair of outdrives or just get a pair from RW Racing.
. . . you have Associated Green Slime for brains. And not even new Green Slime, but old gooped out Green Slime.

True, but its highly recommended.

I think someone once also told me that because of the gearing, it is also faster than a 6 gear (all else being equal of course).

I ran the car this morning with my new Lipo 7.4 battery and 17turn brushed motor 8) ...... I was paranoid that I was going to run the battery down too low with my old Rooster ESC since it won't cutout if the voltage is too low. I think I'm hooked, again this old car is still pretty quick for my skills.

I think I'm going to get a modern car as my basher since I don't want to spend a fortune replacing old hard to find parts on this car.

RW Racing is a small British firm run by a guy named Neil Stubbington. He made steel idlers for the 6 gear in the 90s and was able to sell me a NIP set. Link: http://www.rwracing.co.uk/cars.html

You can also modify a pair of worn out outdrives.
