Just in case anyone still runs these I thought it might be nice to start a little Q&A
Anyone know of a good way to get those pesky little screws out of the black idler gears? That was the worst part about those trannys. (IMO)
The best upgrade was probably the sealed bearing that replaced the felt "seals" on the outdrives. Anyone know if these bearings are still available? They seem like a pretty standard size. 5/8 X 3/8 X .200
Are there any spur gears still available for this? The Magic Johnson Spur gears were awesome. I kinda doubt these are still around
Any other tips, tricks or words of wisdom regarding the 6 gear? (Other than throw it out and get a Stealth)
6 Gear Tranny Tips
yes those outdrive bearings are still available....great upgrade.
yes you can still get spur gears for it.
the best way to get the screws out is to use the small allen wrench that comes with it.....if it is worn just file it down till you get to the new material.
if you pin the diff you can run it a bit looser for smoother diff action.
thorp made a 48p gear set for it that was nice.
you can make some steel idlers from the bottom dogbone drive gears...just dremmel the dogbone section off, then you dont have to mess with the little screws
but there's nothing like a stealth
