RC10 - rod end choices?

Post by kink »

Which rod ends do you guys prefer for use on your vintage RC10s?

Anything I can simply click and buy to upgrade over the original ball and cup ends?

While we are here is there any other minor item like this worth upgrading before my new build?...

Thanks :)

Standard AE ball cups here for vintage.

On my more modern race cars I run the white RPM cups.

most guys here will replace with a couple different options.

standard associated, this kit is nice:

links are steel, but everything is there that you need.

rpm is also available, tough, but interferes with the steering system and upper link on the front in some cases, actually, most cases.

jconcepts makes some nice ball cup sets

losi cups are also available.

you can go with a captured ball end too, such as these:

really up to you. all of the above options work pretty well for shelf or light running. I have heard that the associated cups can pop off after a bit of hard running, not sure about the others.

I don't think the HD ball cups are any stronger than the standard ones. In fact I think I've broken more heavy duty ones then standard ones.

RPM's are definately a more durable option.

I will probably stick with the new original black ones if there is not much in it. I was wondering of there were any captured rod ends in black which may have been superior. If it is in doubt I won't bother.

Thanks

Dubro makes captured rod ends with brass eyelets. Only problem is instead of a ball cup popping off you run the risk of breaking a steering block or another component.

If you are running short arms, the shorter steering link length means they will be popping off upon full suspension compression and/or full droop if you have your suspension properly freed up and wheels turned just so. Hence the "captured" or heim joint type ends popular for steering bitd. Not a problem for CE's though.

For the camber linkages, I like RPM because they seem to me to be most tolerant of multiple on-off episodes without loosening up. I buy the long ones and then exacto them shorter when necessary. That way I have more flexibility in fitting shorter turnbuckles in places I would need a longer one to fit right.

I want to try those Losi ones. They look good in white on a '10.

I've tried JConcepts and I can say I don't like them. They stay on good, but it seems like they developed a back and forth wobble really quickly, and that annoyed me.

The Losi ones are pretty damn nice, the short RPM ones are my favorite, the JC and AE ones are garbage after the first time you take them off- super soft and flexible.
