Ignoring the compound, just looking at tire tread patterns. What would you prefer for use on grass - square blocks, or round spikes?
I guessblocks will last longer in any environment as they are chunkier and each block is typically larger and sturdier than a spike, on most tyres I have seen. So the loading will be less per block. But which pattern gives the best grip on grass?
Of course there is the halfway between answer - square TQ spikes
To be honest I don't think they would. Generally there is too much grip, especially side bite on grass. Usually I cut off the outer rows of the mini spikes otherwise I will grip roll in high speed corners.
If you're talking about racing competitively with them. I usually get maybe 4 meeting out of a set of rear minispikes before they drop off too much. So that's 16 races for me. You can rejuvenate them though half way through their lifespan by snipping the top off the spike, the more rounded (on top) the spike gets the less grip they generate. I find that if you nip the top off them with nail clippers, you can get a few more runs out of them. On UK tracks yellow minispikes are virtually the number 1 choice for dry tracks, it's great because since almost everyone uses them, it's like a control tyre.
As to whether blocks are any good for other types of track I have no idea really. The tracks I race on are astro/grass mixes. The astro adds another dimension though, it can be tough to get the balance right on mixed surfaces, especially if the grass is worn and dry. In the wet, minispikes are terrible on astro turf, so the tyre of choice becomes ballistic buggy minispikes in green compound.
Wondering if there is anything similar in tread design to the Proline Road Hawg's that will fit an 834B wheel? Something besides off road spikes or foams.
Any suggestions you guys can offer? This would be for a shelfer, but I'm hoping to find...
Anyone whose been around here or enjoys racing vintage knows the countless threads and ways we adapt 2.2 rubber to our cars. I can't help but wonder would anyone be interested say a modern Barcode or whatever clay type tire yet in the old 2.0 or 1.9...

I agree Jeff, it has come to the point where I will set something up inside to paint.
The fumes and such are not great indoors but I really don't care anymore.
This is probably not the first time someone asks this question… probably not the last time…
Are there any company that makes new and fresh 1.9” front tires to our old buggies?
I have only found CRP tires… :(

Am trying to look into changing the standard 2.2 'mini spike' tyres on my Nitro 10 Mk3 for full spike. There's plenty of places to get tyres and inserts, but I'm unclear on what I'm going to need for wheels. I know how real tyres are sized (width...

Does anyone have or know of a place to get a template for drilling a gold pan for a stealth trans? Anybody have a rental  .

Thanks Jeff. The paper one worked out fine.
Thanks anyway.
I've been collecting hardware for RC 10's for a year! I would appreciate a source, like a manufacturer (so I can get a bunch of them) .
I can't find any small pattern 4/40 nuts. Any one have a lead?

Glad I was able to help you out. :)
It can be quite difficult to find small specialty hardware. I've spent many hours looking, and places either require you to buy in really large quantities or don't sell to the public. I've found that...
