My first Losi - an experience in frustration!

Post by photogRC »

Hello everyone. New guy here. I used to race back in the day - my first was a Tamiya Falcon (woo hoo!), and then the Traxxas bullet. Lots of good memories.

A few years ago in my adult life, I decided to check out the R/C scene again and I bought a new Team Losi XXX-4 (and I have since bought other buggies [mostly vintage]). I started the build immediately but then ran into some missing parts (bearings, bearing spacers, and MIP hex adapters), so I shelved it... for a few years.

Recently I got bit by the bug again and picked up where I left off (doh - missing parts!), and ordered what I needed. So... last night, I was assembling the front stabilizer turnbuckles. First one was a piece of cake.

The second... well, I think someone at Losi wants to see me in the funny farm.

Here's the problem. Careful, discerning eyes will spot the issue. I am very mechanically inclined, but I've never seen this happen. Unfortunately, it took me 10 MINUTES of cramping hands and sore fingers to find it out. See the problem??

Here's a good vs bad comparison, if you need a little hint:

Anyone else ever run into this?

Wow, that's pretty bad too! That's about as useful as a steering wheel on a train. I imagine you guys have seen a lot of strange and anomalous parts over the years!

On the bright side, I would have been able to see that the threads were missing, rather than believing that a "ribbed" shaft was a threaded shaft :)

Ironically, those blue turnbuckles are how I solved my problem!
