Cool project! There was a conversion kit years ago called the rc-x2 that did basically the same thing with a graphite chassis

The Rc-X2 conversion was from Bullet Racing. It was a graphite chassis that used the RC10 front end with the JRX2 rear end. The logic, and keep in mind that this was before the stealth came out, was that the JRX gearbox was cheaper to buy than the MIP, belt or chain drives and was far superior to the 6 gear. Instead of the Losi rear suspension it used Bullet trailing arms. It was a great setup. I still have a Bullet RC10 with trailing arms but mine has the MIP box. Nothing takes bumps like it does.
