Had a guy from youtube who saw a few of my JRX2 videos message me and ask me if I was interested in his old JRX2. I said sure and asked for more info.

Sent me blurry pics and said he only wanted $15 for it plus the shipping from CA to NJ.

I said sure, and it arrived a couple months ago.

Was in extremely rough shape. Thick rust, dirt, just filthy.

It sat in my shop for about 2 months until this past Friday when I tore it down and started to clean it up.

Broke it down to the bare nuts and bolts, basically re-kitted it, every single screw and clip was disassembled.

Long story short, there was a princess under that mess.

Wheels aren't original, battery strap is broken, and the rear battery cup has been cut down for god knows what reason. Also the front shocks seem too long, I am going to put internal limiters in them to bring the front end down about 1/2". Also the motor plate was lightened on a drill press, it appears.

So........... Here is my latest, $15, JRX2. Not too bad.

Oh, also, the only electronics it came with was a basically perfect condition (label and all) while label "JR's Choice" motor. Put that one in the motor case. The motor installed in these pics is a Revolution I also had laying around.

Maybe it's the trimmed sides, but that looks longer then stock in those pictures!

the front battery cup looks like an RPM battery box missing the removable cover.
chassis is missing the 2 forward holes for the stock battery cup, and the rpm battery box hole spacing is different from stock losi cups.
makes me think it is a custom chassis plate.

Yeah I quite like the look of the drilled motor plate also! 8)

Great job on turning this old JRX2 into something that looks quite lovely! The car, I agree does somehow look longer than a standard JRX2, I wonder if the car has had the Proformance kit of parts added & that the LWB chassis has been trimmed to look more like the SWB chassis ~ the shape is somehow less smooth than it should be like its been cut by hand? - this would also explain the long front shock tower & the JRs choice motor - which both came with the Proformance kit :wink:

Very interesting info!

Yes, the chassis I noticed right away was longer, as none of my other X2 bodies will line up with the mounting tabs on the shock towers. About 1/2" off or so. I just assumed it was the longer proforma-na-nce chassis. But the missing battery cup screw holes is indeed strange. I also compared that cup to the two types I know about (original narrower latch and the later wider type) and yes it does not match either one. If anyone has the top latch for this cup, I would be interested in picking it up.

Car seems to be a mix of earlier parts, there were original narrow shock collars on it (broken of course) and the metal outdrive spacers on the trans.... and later parts like the 2-hole 5-link arms and the taller front tower. More evidence that maybe it was an earlier original that was upgraded.

Did not notice the chassis being any narrower. I will compare more closely to my other X2's and XT tonight.

This is getting a little more interesting!

The chassis on this car looks self made. It seems to my eves be even longer than Losi's LWB chassis (same geometry was used in all: Proforma-na-nce kit, JrxT, JrxPro and even on JrxProSE but only a bit more narrower) since the space between battery holded and steering parts is so long. Also there are only two screw holes in chassis for battery holder, all Losi publicly available chassis had 4 battery holder screws.

The reason for the curves in steering servo area just might be that You could use Jrx2 (SWB) still body on it. Cut the rear end like it should and cut the front end so that it just matches the new chassis lenght. See an example about this kind of Jrx2 body mount to LWB chassis on Jack Johnson's car here: http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=25299. If it's a hand made chassis, the quality is awesome. Fooled me. :) Can't wait to get home from work now and check this thing out again!

Not necessarily hand made (with simply methods with handsaw and hand drill etc.) but maybe self made or unique :?: manufactured? Members here have made magnificent copies from existing shock towers etc..

Is the front kickup 30 degrees like in oter Losi's LWB chassis?

I have 1 3/4 of those battery hold downs, including the spike RPM included to mark the chassis. One of the hold downs were butchered however to attempt to fit it on a normal battery hold down seeing as the rpm hold down did not fit a molded chassis. :roll:

All,

So, the front kickup is 30 degrees best I can tell.

The chassis is as far as I can tell, exactly the same width at the 5-link side bulkheads as my other X2's, just over 5 and 1/4 inches across. Probably looks narrower because it's longer. But it's not narrower.

The front between the battery cup and the steering rack is shaped very differently than my other X2's.

It is just under 1/2" longer than my other X2's.

The chassis layup side profile looks the same as my other X2's.

That is all for tonight.

This turned out to be pretty interesting... :)
