i literally havent touched any of my rc10s or built one in years. it was the last vintage nats i went to, which was either 2009 or 2010... sadly i have forgotten ALOT about these little rigs. truth be told i never really knew alot about them to begin with other than i loved them when i was a kid and the early days of ebay were very good to me.

scr8p, being the pal he is txtd me about the re-re before it was officially announced, and i got a little excited. i ordered 3, got 2, and built 1.

nothing special... but i havent posted a thread here in ages and got a week of vacation coming around turkey day and plan to whittle a neat little 10 out of this re-re.

i built it pretty much to stock the first time, with the exception of a used white worlds steering setup, some lunsford turnbuckles with white rpm ends, softer springs, and a set of bearings i scrounged from my boxes of parts car take offs.
i also painted the protech tamiya camel yellow with the idea of a boxart, and i immediately hated it... no picture of that (im at work right now) but it looks just like everybody elses camel yellow protech with the exception that i masked all the window areas.

here it was after i got it put together the first time. i made typical mistakes such as not re-drilling the front shock tower and only putting the 2 spacers per manual in the rear shocks.



last night i tore it all down. over my vacation, if i get time outside of a scaler build i'm gonna trim the tub sieben-style, either put a hyperdrive belt setup on the 6 gear or drop in a stealth. also got a twin seater mrlexan funco bolink body i'll think i'll use.
power will most likely be a tekin rs going to something like a 10.5 turn or maybe a 17.5 and run off 3s since i have a ton of 3s lipos.

me and scr8p had the idea of building sacrificial rc10's bitd, maybe if i put something super hot in this one it will end up being just that.

what i want is just enough power to be too much.

Then a boosted 10.5 with a 2S will do just fine!

i got a 6.5 in my tuber, run it on 2s. maybe its the weight but it aint that fast.

a little siebenslamming. cut out half an inch on the tub.

nicely done if i say so myself... level, even, didnt slip with the dremel and mess up the annodizing.

like other things, a little trim really improves the look. cut sides of the chassis really let the body fit a whole lot better too.

need to order up the elecs and get it running. i think ill do the funco lid with a boxart theme.

That does look pretty sweet cut down, and your right. It does make the body fitting look better, Low and fast!

its pretty easy to cut the tub. i just used a dremel with some cutoff wheels, then cleaned it up with a file. i didnt cut through on the first pass, i just went along my marked lines and cut a little deeper each pass.
after i had measured and marked my cuts, it maybe took 30-45 minutes with the dremel.
and while its relatively easy, its pretty damn intimidating doing it while trying not to mess up.

gonna order some cvds and a tekin rs/10.5 setup off tower. might second guess myself and get a 17.5 instead...


edit - bit the bullet and got the tekin rs gen2 with a tekin 10.5.

well, i got my tower order today.

gen2 tekin rs with the 10.5, hitec 7xxx something servo, can of tamiya flourscent pink and camel yellow, and another rc10 decal sheet for the funco body, some deans and other misc bits... spare spur gear incase i melt mine.

i should have it running this weekend. maybe take it out and get some action shots flogging it in a baseball diamond.

its a measure twice, cut once kinda thing...

i have plenty of practice hacking up old tubs for various little brackets or skidplates on my crawlers. i dont know for sure, but the new tub sure as hell seemed alot easier to cut than the old ones. could be i had a crappy dremel back then or maybe i just got alot better.
