XX Kinwald Edition with Trinity Goodies :0
I bought this Kinwald xx over two years ago and put a brushless system in it. I quickly realised that my driving skills would only destroy it so i retired it to the shelf. The plan was to clean it up and fit some bling. After many months of searching i now have a lovely pile of new parts ready to be fitted. Infact pretty much the whole car will be new by the time its done.
The trinity front bulkhead seems to be the hardest part to find these days giving it an almost unicorn like status! However i managed to find one by buying a huge pile of worn out xx stuff. I saw it glistening like a jewel in the poor quality ebay pictures!
Anyway started putting it together, heres some pics..
Also dyed the steering assembly black
cut some titanium shock shafts for hinge pins

Heres the motorplate im using. Im assuming this is a trinity item also?
Think i got it from rick/bearrickster who said that he had it anodized blue. Must have been silver originally, like the one on my xxt.
The blue kinwald motorplate had a few scuffs n scrapes so it was no use. I love all the milling on these, way cooler than the original

That's looking very nice so far! About your custom-made hinge pins, what are you going to do to keep them in place? I imagine you'll need to cut some e-clip grooves on the cut ends...how would one do that?

Re: XX Kinwald Edition with Trinity Goodies :0
Thanks! Well the rear hinge pin only requires one e-clip as its held captive by the pivot plate so its fine.
The front one does require 2 e-clips however. Im sure i could get my dad to stick it in his lathe and put a wee groove in it.
The later xxx series does have a titanium hinge pin i can use. This buggy wont ever be used so in the mean time it should be ok

I dont think trinity made a motor plate. Its more than likely a lightweight job that got re-anodized like you mentioned. Cool and very nice none-the-less

Re: XX Kinwald Edition with Trinity Goodies :0
Looking good! I just love that combination of the blue alloy parts with the marbled grey of the graphite
That motor plate is an option part from Losi... they were sold in silver but this one has been custom anodised blue (they were sold by a US eBay seller for quite a lot of $ IIRC? ) This plate is the later type with radial machines grooves - the earlier type had straight cut grooves.
Just an observation, but it looks like your rear pivot block is on the wrong way round...... which would give you toe out
PS; very jealous of your Trinity front bulkhead, it's certainly a desirable part & a thing of beauty - even if means that on a runner you would be likely to break the chassis instead of the somewhat 'sacrificial' plastic bulkhead (that said - these days it's probably easier & cheaper to get a new chassis rather than a bulkhead!!)

Looks great, I like the blue!!
I have one of these on deck...maybe get to it over Christmas.
Mine has more red parts though and not as many nice ones as yours.

No it is a plastic one dyed red. That is how I got it.
I think the gem is the RPM gear cover for me.

Re: XX Kinwald Edition with Trinity Goodies :0
That red motor plate demonstrates perfectly the difference between the older & newer milled items, it's interesting that it's anodised red, I brought one for my XX in the 90s which was anodised blue but there was a red one on the rack also, I did wonder if they had been anodised by a 3rd party, but it seems they have been official Losi items? My blue one was much darker than the 'Trinity' blue of your motor plate Paul, but it matched the AE Ali screw kit I had fitted perfectly
Regarding the hinge pins, you could get the gold nitrided pins specifically - I hadn't heard of anyone cutting down shock shafts for this purpose before, since these shafts were so expensive..... but it would be a good way to utilise damaged Nitrided shafts?
