I see. I'd imagined a Protech with a clear wing shoe gooed in front of the windshield.gomachv wrote:I'd take a front wing over a dodge caravan dune buggy any day of the week85Edinger wrote:Cab forward bodies don't look great, but they look better than clear front wings.

Gyros, traction control, and various other active aids also give RC cars better handling and faster speeds so they should be allowed in racing as well.

Re: B5 and B5m discussion.....
I'm on board with the mini front wings too. DO the ROAR and or IFMAR rules preclude the use of a frontal wing? I know that I've seen pictures on oople of buggies with front wings....pre-ugly body syndrome. Check out Danny McGee's XXX mid halfway down this page. Racy

Re: B5 and B5m discussion.....
ROAR rules include:
We used to have effective front 'wings', basically a scoop that fit on the front of the shock tower between the shocks.
http://www.losipartshouse.com/catalog/JCI0103-450.jpg
You can see how that would develop into the cab forward bodies just by moving it back an inch or two.
So, technically unless the body has a full size version that uses a front wing, front wings are banned by ROAR. Even though the rules allow ugly cab forward shells when the rules state the bodies "should resemble those used in full scale off-road and stadium racing."6.5.3.2 Off=road wings may be mounted using wire or fastened directly to the chassis. There is no minimum clearance for off-road wings. Front wings are allowed if utilized on the body's full-scale counterpart. If allowed, front wing dimensions are specified in the class rules.

Re: B5 and B5m discussion.....
predators were 1 of my fav rc setups .. i always thought it would be cool to put truck tires on one and set it up to be able to drive upside down.. never scrach up or bust shocktowers from roll overs with that setup .gomachv wrote:I'd take a front wing over a dodge caravan dune buggy any day of the week85Edinger wrote:Cab forward bodies don't look great, but they look better than clear front wings.

I was going to mention that JCon wicker dam. They could just mold that into the tower in composite LOL!terry.sc wrote:ROAR rules include:

Re: B5 and B5m discussion.....
I went racing!
I met a guy named Isaac Wood at my local track, R/c Kinetics in Troy, NY. He's an AE sponsored driver, and he ran a B5m prototype. He was nice enough to let me snap a few pictures of my Rc10 next to his prototype.
It looks basically the same as the production version, except it has a b4 front end.
Sorry about the bad pictures, I was in a rush.
I'm car #1, I came in 3rd in the A Main. I beat a B4 and lost to the prototype and a TRF201. My setup's far from ideal, and I'm a decent driver but not great. I had fun though, and more to the point, saw the B5m. It does indeed have an aluminum chassis, but it's black so it could easily be mistaken for plastic. Mr. Wood was running a standard shorty pack.
It was cool to see the prototype in person.

Re: B5 and B5m discussion.....
Are you sure? He said it was a B5 prototype, and that definitely looks like a B4 front end to me. Too bad I didn't take a better picture.
(Facepalm) the rear shock tower's all wrong. . .

Thinking back to it, he did hesitate a little when I pointed out that it had a B4 front end.
