Help with internal turmoil. Have you ever.....

Post by Tadracket »

Over my 34 and change years of life, I have been into all kinds of different hobbies. From slots and statics to archery, fishing; hell there was a time I collected pennies. I would pay $10 for a penny if it was right. I have went through the MAJOR branches of RC; boats, monster trucks, planes, helis, buggies. And I love them all. After I sold my last collection off, I said I would never sell another RC thing again.

So have you ever wrestled the idea of selling RC stuff you don't really want to get rid of? What did you do?

I am looking at my A&L with the all steel gears thinking I would love to start racing that in the local 2-wheel drive class. But it is so pretty to look at:

Image

I don't want to get it dirty, but I think with modern electronics, it could be at least, a contender for second to last at the local track. Well, if I am to get into racing, I will need to sell some thing. And I also want to get a new Hobao 8.5 plus I have projects to finish. I just don't have the money.

He is my ultimate problem. I think this car could fetch a decent price. Sure it will not be enough to satisfy all my wants, but it is a start.

This is the car that was a new from box build with the no name Novak. For those that do not know the no name Novak, it was the first ESC, despite what the time line at Novak says, to come from Bob Novak. This has been verified through Novak.

It has other orange goodies like a never ran NER-2S Rx and a NES-1A servo, also in great shape. It is by far the nicest thing in my very small collection but it is no fun just sitting in a box. I want to run something. But at the same time, I want to preserve this car. But in the end, the Sun will suck up the earth, it would have all been for nothing anyway. Why not have fun while I can?

What would you do??

Run it. Dude, you only live once and obiviously it's torturing you. I can hear those cars saying "drive me" from here. If you're just looking at it, then you should be builiding static kits. Personally, I don't believe in NIBs or shelfers. I run everything. If you look at my collection, everything appears "shelf" but it's not. I just take good care of my belongings. I plan on taking my A&L for a run as soon as I have time. I can't wait. Now, I probably wouldn't run a whole racing season with it but it'll hit a few Saturday races. For me, the fun value of driving it is worth WAY more to me than any price ebay could give.

Yeah, I've seen the cars you drive. That speaks volumes. but I can't run the goldie. Just can't do it. I have goldies to run.

The A&L on the other hand, is looking like Noob Fodder though

i am by no means a shelfer person myself, but i dont agree with running the "no name" car. toss the a&l car out there and have a blast, i plan on running my andys trailing arm car, which is almost all new or new-ish parts, only used parts are trans and front arms. upgrade the eletronics, wheels/tires, toss a protech on there and have fun.

If you plan on keeping everything on the shelf you might as well just collect plastic model cars. This hobby is a little too expensive to just not use them. For that much money you may as well collect paintings and art. I say run whatever you want. You can't put a price on memories and fun.

Also (just thought of this), I go to a lot of car shows and when I see someone who has put tons of money into a big 4x4 to make it this monster offroad capaple vehicle and then they tell me "I never take it offroad", I just wanna slap em.
RC's are like ****'s... everyone has one... some are just more torn up then others.

Yeah, I got plenty of gold pans I can bash. And selling this goldie would help buy batteries, esc, motors, all that good stuff. I think I am gonna do it. One day, I'll regret it. But if I still had all the crap I regretted selling, my 2 1/2 car garage would be full of crap.

So off it goes.
Thanks guys.

i run b4's and soon to be b44's (replacing my yoke)

You can get a RTR version of the b4 for like $250, add like bearings, a competitive speed controller (i like the lrp v8.1) and a reciever, and you got a competitive car thats a absolute blast to run.

I think the factory team is a total waste of money. Graphite parts are terrible and break way to easy... almost all factory drivers run plastic parts which come on the RTR version already. Plastic is a little heavier but once i went to plastic... i never broke a part in recent months to be honest.. I own like 2-3 rtr's (one is in peices) and they are cheap, competitive and easily available and fun to run.

b4's pop up on ebay all the time too relatively cheap..

I think you gotta do what makes you happy. If you can run a mint/near mint shelfer and be ok with it, do it, if not, sell it to someone else as a shelfer or let them run and scuff it up. IMHO, if you're not enjoying something, then why do it or own it?

When I bought my clods, I bought them to bash and enjoy, and I've done a really good job of that. I drool over some of the wondrous creations that others have made and wished one for myself, however I get enjoyment from running the vehicle, not storing it on a shelf.

I am having the same dilemma that you are with a few of my possessions. I don't want to get rid of them because once they're gone, it isn't likely I'll ever see them again, but at the same time I cannot justify hanging on to something I'm neither using nor enjoying. Decisions, decisions ... :? :?

My racing will be extremely limited to a run-what-u-brung 2-wheel drive electric class as far as electrics go. I have several cars that only need electronics and I don't plan on winning so a good old gold tub will work for me.

If I buy another car, it will be 1/8 gas buggy/truggy. Unless I can sell enough crap that I can afford a 5B.If that is the case, I'll be at the North end of Wrightsville Beach with the track owner burning gas while everyone else is at the track racing. :D :D :D

I hear ya' Halgar. Everyone is pretty much saying what I wanted to hear and you hit the nail on the head.

nothing beats the sound of a whining 2 stroke propelling 25lbs worth of potentially maiming metal and plastic at high speeds.

Potentially maiming......

That is too funny

You could probably break a leg easily with these things. But don't tell the Consumer Product Safety Commission. They will want to ban them.

Ebay pulled my lawn darts the other day because the CPSC banned them back in 1988. WTF!!! The box says keep away from children. I can buy bow and arrows on eBay but I can't sell lawn darts. That just sucks.
