spektrum controller question
spektrum controller question
does anyone use the spektrum or similar controller and reciever? What are the benifits to it? It looks to me like its a wirelss system with a large antena on the reciever, how does it fit under the body and get good reception? pics of it on the vehicle with body on and off would be helpful.

Re: spektrum controller question
No crystals, no more gouging out a hole in the body so the antenna straw can come out... no more ripping your antenna straw out of the vehicle, automatically picks a channel, lets you turn on your radio in the pits, depending on the model, it's faster than 75mHz, no more gouging peoples eyes out with your 4 foot antenna... there's lots of benefits. I'm using the FASST system, which is faster than the Spektrum set, but the new DX3R looks promising speed wise despite being a little on the soft side control wise (I can't feel anything on that thing!)

Re: spektrum controller question
I've been using Spektrum DSM for about 4 years now, and I won't ever use a FM-based radio ever again.
Speed isn't an issue unless you are racing at the absolute highest level, as most radios are faster than us mortals can think and react anyway. No long antennas ever again, no changing crystals or frequencies, multiple cars bound to one transmitter, ridiculous reception range, no more capacitors on motors, no more glitching or interference. I use it in everything from drag cars to 1/12th scale carpet to nitro dirt sprint cars to 70mph 1/8th gas on road cars.
Make the switch, you won't regret it.

Re: spektrum controller question
Gorgeous B44! I'm using the FASST system in my old Futaba 3PJ. I have the reciever basically mounted on top of a brushless motor and i've yet to have a glitch.
Re: spektrum controller question
Thanks for the pictures guys. I feel like a fish outta water with the new electronics. I don't even know what the functions do. Guess I need to buy one and figure it out. I finally got enought to buy my T4 and now I have a few dollars towards a new electronics system. (probably get it in 2 months or so.) If I want to use it for both cars what do I need?

Re: spektrum controller question
you need either 2 recievers, or velcro for the bottom of the reciever, the spektrum micro recievers are like $99, normal size for like $89 (street value)
Re: spektrum controller question
The original spektrum recievers were like $50. Thats what made it so popular initially. The micros are still $99.
Re: spektrum controller question
So how short can I go with my ariel? Ive kept it stock and it seems a little long...whats the best youve done?
Re: spektrum controller question
When you say arial, do you mean the antenna on the radio? Cause thats a fixed lenth. As far as the reciever antennas, they have to stay their stock length, although in situations where glitching because of metal to metal contact or large amounts of AL and CF is low, it's my understanding that you can remove the external antenna from the Futaba RX and rely solely on the interior antenna... I just haven't gotten brave enough to try it yet.

Re: spektrum controller question
Spektrum says that you can shorten the receiver antenna to 3.6" if you need to shorten it. It will reduce the overall range (from 3 miles, to less than half) but who cares with a car?
All of my DSM receivers are 3.6" long antennas.

Re: spektrum controller question
Good to know... although I never really had a problem with the 4ish iches of antenna... heck, all my stuff used to have 2 feet of wire coming out of it... hiding 4 is nothing.
