I had the same problem with the B4 wing mounts on the original old/new runner. I ended up using some RPM front truck body mounts and a custom transmission brace, although the standard brace would work just fine. It's been holding up great so far.fredswain wrote:That looks beautiful. I tried the same thing with the B4 wing mounts. I had nothing but problems with them. When the car flipped on track, the mounts would turn and come loose since there was only 1 screw in each. Eventually I gave up on them and went back to the stock wing mounts. It was a neat idea though.

Great looking build, David. It's a carbon fiber fiesta!

I am running the B4 wing mounts without much problems. I am running them through the back of a Protech body, so it helps keep them in line.
JHarris has a good write up on using the wing mounts here http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=16610&hilit=modern.
Although I have been thinking about using the 10T mounts to get the wing above the body, or I might lower the body.

Another idea was the use of A&Ls wing mounts part #1004.
Nice build by the way. Makes me want to build another to keep clean

Thanks for all the nice comments gents! I don't plan to leave these B4 mounts as they are now, I know it won't work and I'm still scrutinizing about a proper solution. A&L mounts were indeed considered, but if you don't tighten the set screws like crazy, the wing is always prone to detach at some point (unless you make notches in the piano wire). I would just like something that works good and get rid of the OE wing mount system. I might give a try to the RB5/XX wing mounts, I think the Lazer ZX5 ones might also work good... we'll see.

I cant tell from the pic, is there a step in the nose where it meets the chassis like a factory aluminum one has or is it just flat?
What about the fiberlite ones current available?
Great looking car!!!

Yep, there is a step included in the kick-up. I don't think FibreLyte still makes the truck nose version, only the buugy one is available nowadays and it comes undrilled toofastang wrote:I cant tell from the pic, is there a step in the nose where it meets the chassis like a factory aluminum one has or is it just flat?

I got a set of tamiya TRFblablaX wingmounts with my new brushed LRP ESC. I have to show you those; I think they're really great and come with a couple other usefull parts= unlike the RB5 onesAsso_man! wrote:Thanks for all the nice comments gents! So I finally retired my previous Team Car runner and installed electronics in this one. Made some laps around the square this morning and it's ballistic! The RPM trans really helps controlling the LRP 6.5 motor better than a regular Stealth. It's very quiet and silent too. Still a few minor details to fix, some e-clips are missing, RPM gear cover on it's way and I need to paint a new shell for it as well. I might work on the shocks a bit as well as I'm not totally satisfied with the amount of travel of the suspension, it's a bit too low as well. Pics:

Awesome build sir!
Are the white arms available anywhere or are they vintage parts? Me thinks they'd look good on a cf build I have in mind.
Thanks

They are Dynotech which is still around....but are you going to run a narrow truck style bulkhead and noseplate?treystoys wrote:Awesome build sir!

I don't know what you ended up using for wing mounts, but I have been using B5M wing mounts and they work perfect. I was tired of the B4 mounts twisting on a crash (which I do more than I should, lol).

Looks great, David! Nice to see it as a runner.
The B5M wing mounts are a good choice. I used them on my World's Re-Re build and ended up putting a set on my OIN runner. I think they'd work even better with your rear shock tower setup.
