Hotshot re-re questions
Hi everyone - so much like when I started out with the Sand Scorcher project, I'm a complete and total newb with the Hot Shot. I picked up a re-re at a lhs for $199 - which wasn't bad so I pulled the trigger.
I've already started hoarding some upgrades like ball bearings, metal outdrives and dog bones.
I was wondering though - is there a ball diff for it like the SRB?
Also, its not clear but is there an underguard included in the re-re kit? I haven't opened it yet - I want to wait until I have everything and I'm ready to build it
I was also looking at doing the Supershot shock conversion - what parts do I need and where can I get them? I saw a 'pressed parts bag' on ebay which looked like it might be what I need. Does Tower sell them?
Finally - is there anything that is a 'must do' replacement / upgrade if I want to run it with a brushless motor other than the stuff above?

Re: Hotshot re-re questions
No underguard in re re.
I know of two ball diff for the car: Paranoia and Thorp. Paranoia is very rare, Thorp shows up from time to time on ebay.
Tons of play in the gearbox, brushless set up may be challenging...
You may wanna get CVD for the car. I think DF02 cvd fits.

Re: Hotshot re-re questions
I ran a 3500kv with a 3s lipo and no trouble what so ever with the gearboxes. Was brutal fast, was to fast for the handiling of the car. I would think you'd have more issues breaking it by running into things like i did.......

Re: Hotshot re-re questions
The underguard should be available, the part number is 9335639
The press Metal Parts bag on ebay includes all the brackets needed to mount the shocks, but it doesn't include any of the spacers needed, nor the special screws needed for the rear arm mounts. You can download the manual here http://www.tamiya.com/japan/download/rcmanual/58517.pdf so you can see how everything goes together and look up the part numbers for the parts you need.

Re: Hotshot re-re questions
Just pulled the trigger on the underguard, press metal parts bag and found the damper parts bag too. Haven't had any luck locating a ball diff though.

Re: Hotshot re-re questions
HI!... The ball diffs come up rarely. Look for one for the Blackfoot. It apparently bolts in. They go on Ebay for $80-$125. Getting rare.

Re: Hotshot re-re questions
Thanks - now that I know what it looks like, I did see a few on ebay. But wow are they pricey! Also, the end are hex on your pic but I thought the Hotshot had dog bones like the RC10? That's what I bought on ebay (steel ones) so I hope they work!

Re: Hotshot re-re questions
I do! But can you answer the question about the outdrives? Are the like the RC10 with slots or a hex setup?

Re: Hotshot re-re questions
The Frog/Blackfoot and Hotshot share the same differential, but the Frog/Blackfoot uses hex driveshafts as seen in the picture, while the Hotshot uses a normal dogbone with slots in the diff outputs.
