Big Brute Replacement Tire Options?
Struggling to figure out best replace wheel and tire option for BB. My son really wants to get it up and running as do I.
I don't want to break the bank. I know I will need some sort of new hubs and this is what I am confused about. I would like something that looks stock but anything the right size would be ok.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rubber-Tires-Tyre-Plastic-Wheel-Rim-0602-3003-HPI-RC-1-10-Monster-Bigfoot-Truck-/121554779914?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c4d3abf0a
It is going to be very close when it comes to clearance of the rims. I will need to take a closer look. The BB I think had an inside diameter of 54 cm and these are supposed to be 52 cm.
Other possible options
The ones on the right are HPI Mudthrashers that fit on a 56x51 mm rim but I am worried that isn't big enough.

These are not bad either but I think they go on a 2.2 rim and I am still not sure if it is big enough.

I would post pics but I am having a heck of a time doing it on this forum.... at the end of the day I hope someone has tried one of these combos and knows if it works!

Re: Big Brute Replacement Tire Options?
Maybe some Tamiya Grasshopper wheel hubs with some Tamiya car crusher series (like the Beetle or lunch box) wheels & tires...? If this sounds like a feasible option, let me know and I will see if this will work with my models. The Double Dare, Hi-Rider Corvette and Big Boss are the same size to broaden your options. Please confirm independently first.
I sent that seller a few questions to see if they might work for you.

I think you should ditch the stock wheel mounting system. They tend to crack very easily. A conversion to a standard hex should be fairly easy, then your wheel/tire options should open up dramatically.

Do you know what parts would be needed to do this on a BB? I just don't know where to start and am struggling to find anything on it in detail.RichieRich wrote:I think you should ditch the stock wheel mounting system. They tend to crack very easily. Re: Big Brute Replacement Tire Options?
I think RR is correct about the hex conversion. I found a kit ("hub conversion kit") on ebay for $16 and the smallest of the three look like they will work with the wheels and tires you mentioned: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Axial-IFD-Hex-Hub-Conversion-Set-AX31074-/311283572114?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4879f25d92
If we can figure that out you would be gtg. If the I.D. is correct on the hubs-to-axle dimension it could easily be drilled to fit.
We will figure it out, must be a way.

Re: Big Brute Replacement Tire Options?
I took my BB shelf-queen off and did some measuring for you. Here is what I found:
1. Tire Diameter 132mm
2. Tire Width 79mm
3. Axle Diameter 4.93mm
4. Hub Diameter 27.5mm
5. Hub Thickness 5mm
6. Axle (hub removed) 19mm
7. Exposed Axle (hub installed) 13mm
8. Exposed Axle (wheel installed) 5mm
9. Tire I.D. 59mm
Some of this may not be helpful, but 2, 6, 7 and 8 might be helpful if sellers on Ebay include detailed data.
Hope this helps.

Re: Big Brute Replacement Tire Options?
So these hubs just fit over the shafts? Any way of knowing for sure they fit on the BB shaft size?
Thanks for the measurements! This monster truck tires look to be close in height if a bit narrower.

Re: Big Brute Replacement Tire Options?
Yes, the hubs RR pointed out will fit on the axle and engage the locking pin that runs through the axle. The title of the auction states for BB. The wheels you buy would then need to have a 17mm hex shape to engage these particular aluminum hubs. You would also need to do the math to ensure the wheels thickness does not exceed the remaining exposed axle. As that auction states and my measurement confirms 5mm is required for the wheel nut.Snaab9-2 wrote:So these hubs just fit over the shafts? Any way of knowing for sure they fit on the BB shaft size?

The tread on the tires you linked to look really close to the originals, I like them. Please keep me updated on what you go with. If you have any pics that would be awesome too!
The wheels in the auction will not work with the hubs RR pointed out. The wheels are 12mm hex.
Here are some 12mm hubs, but the Seller doesn't actually state thickness of the hub. The title states 5.0, but it does not specify what that information actually is: http://www.ebay.com/itm/4PCS-Yellow-5-0-12mm-Wheel-Hub-HEX-Mount-For-HSP-RC-1-10-Car-Truck-02100-102042-/321419388145?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ad616a4f1
I asked thickness and axle hole size. Will post any response.
If wheels are thinner than the BB that would not be a problem as you could just put a spacer on before the nut so everything locks into place. I would avoid something that is too thick as it might be a messy fix.
You will need a wheel that does not exceed 8mm thickness. This is based on a hub thickness of 5mm, which is what the originals were. If the hubs you buy are thicker then you will need to reduce the thickness of the wheels you buy (measured at the center axle hole) to offset the thickness added by the hub.

Re: Big Brute Replacement Tire Options?
Wow, thanks again. Great information. I like the price on those 12mm hubs!
Look forward to,what u hear on the width and such.... this looks really promising. If I get them b4 u I will share pics for sure! I hope to get them b4 my b day in the end of May but we shall see.... wife had been annoyed with me spending money on RC stuff..... but I will get something for sure within the next 3 months lol.
Yeah, those tires look to be a little narrower but almost the same height! I think they could work very well.

Re: Big Brute Replacement Tire Options?
The seller* stated the axle hole is 4mm and our front axles are 3.93mm. The "5.0" in the title does indicate 5mm thickness. I will get my digital calipers tomorrow and remeasure the axles just to make sure.
NOTE: I have made corrections to the axle diameter measurements.

Thanks again. Sounds like it would be really close and I would think it would work.
There is also green, sliver, purple and other colors.... it seems the difference is just color but I am not sure why anyone would care about the color.

This might just fit on the factory wheels!

I need to measure.
These may be a hit too small.... the seller said the wheels have an ID of 52 mm.

For the price, these may be a good option even if a little small and modern looking.
