RC10 A stamp, Out drives not centered over rear arm mounts?

Post by LemonC »

I busted one of my stub axles the other day presumably bc i have too much down travel in my shocks ( im gonna fit that soon) and my stub axles are old and warn...

I ordered a cvd kit and some RPM arms for the rear. I noticed before but just wanted some feedback about a concern i ve had.

The outdrives on my 6 gear trans dont really center over the rear arm mounts. this make a diagonal connection (red line) to the stub axles.

It seems like i could straiten out the axle situation if the trans was shifted back or more simply if i modified the arm mounts and moved them forward to the rear holes of the arm mounts (basically notching the front most section off and using the remaining holes). This would shorten the wheel base by an 1/8 - 1/4 or so of course...

Should i not worry about this?

Dont need to worry about it really, but the later cars used the other holes and the bulkhead was notched to fit them.

Wheelbase changes affect handling, in theory moving the arm mounts forwards gives more weight bias towards the rear of the car. This gives you more rear traction. If you have short rear arms, you may prefer more front traction, with the arm mounts as they are, but try both and see which works best for you.

thanks gomachv.

Also, when i mount the shocks on the outer most hole on the rear arms, the tire touches the shock. the rear is set with some negative camber. would i just need to go more neutral to positive camber ideally or just not use the outer most mounting point.

I could just leave it in the factory rec position but id like to play with the stock setup to get more oversteer going on. Ive got the degree'd steering blocks that seem to bite more in the front but still understeers a bit and it tends to roll over at times.

im using jconcepts original size wheel and tire replacements (hazards)...

@harvey - Yeah the moving the rear wheels forward thing i was worried about shifting more weight to the back bc i already need to shift more weight towards the front. And same with moving the trans back - would do the same thing essentially... I have a bit of a bouncy front end on my setup already.
