Re: LA/OC vintage meet up?
So I went to IERC in San Bernardino last night after work. They have been getting a vintage class together, so I wanted to join in and have some fun. Great indoor facility, nice pro shop, really nice indoor track. Great pit area, with an enormous projection TV on the wall
I qualified 2nd overall, we ran a mixed class of run what ya brung vintage and novice, both were small heats so we ran together. Lined up 2nd on the grid for the main, had been swapping tires all night trying to find something in the small stash I brought that worked decently. I had planned on clay compound, not super soft - clay tires seem to need tons of conditioning with traction compound, which I have refused to use in all my years racing
Tone sounds, we take off, and like any typical novice start, everyone piles into the first corner. TQ got out clean, I did not. Last place, leader 1/2 lap ahead. My tire selection for the main was the best feeling so far that night, so I buckle down and work on getting around the assorted SC trucks and other cars as they weave around the track. Within a few laps, I am back up to 2nd, but pretty far back, traffic wasnt the nicest to me as well, getting tangled up a couple times. I find the leader about 15 feet behind me, getting ready to put me a lap down. I concentrate on just putting in clean passes on back markers and driving good lines. Leader gets taken out by a back marker and I pull away, no fear of getting lapped now . I get through traffic pretty cleanly, but the leader isnt. With mearly seconds left to go, I take a quick glance around the track and found I was less than 1/3 of the track down (around 27~28 second lap times), so about 10 seconds back. Time ran out and I finished happily in 2nd place. For the first time on the track and dirt, not having the right tires/set up. Swapping motors each heat & main to get the feel I wanted, I think I did really well.
For the record, the winning "vintage" car was a Losi XXX - not XX or JRX, but the chassis they just retied a couple years ago.

It's pretty nice to sit in the pits and work on your car isn't it? No more standing...

Re: LA/OC vintage meet up?
Looks like momentum is rolling for this Friday night @ IERC in San Bernardino. If you can, make it out so we have a full heat of vintage iron to toss around the track!

Re: LA/OC vintage meet up?
Just to bump this thread, I'm still out at LRH on Thursday nights. Norman on here (Justin from Hobby People) is usually out too, hopefully he'll be getting his RC10 with the red chassis I milled going soon. I've always got my B1M out there, along with my b44.
Re: LA/OC vintage meet up?
Hey guys.
I was out at SCVRC and was talking to them about vintage RC10s. They would be interested in doing a vintage class if there was enough folks who wanted to do it. I mention it here because IERC is WWWAAAAAAYYYY too far for me to get to on a Friday night. Are any people interested in doing vintage at SCVRC?

Re: LA/OC vintage meet up?
We have a few tracks willing to make a vintage class, if enough of us show up. More locally to me than the hour plus drive to IERC is LRH in Placentia/Anaheim. First monday night of every month @ 7 pm ish. They also race every saturday morning @ 10. 4 make a class, but if we are going to go, we need to organize and show up in force.

funny, LRH actually. I'm building a JRX2, an Optima Mid and a couple of YZ10s.JK Racing wrote:scooby, we dont have a 4wd class quite yet, but what track you leaning towards? I wasnt able to make the "nostalgia nationals" tonight at LRH.

Re: LA/OC vintage meet up?
Well, our local track, IERC has closed, I have heard rumors that LRH has returned to practice only, no racing. I did run at our outdoor track Pegasus last night and can say it was a blast. Nothing like running vintage cars outdoor.
