Rough Rider Restore

Found this beauty MK1 Rough Rider in Calgary and decided this would be a good way to ease back into RC. It was used, albeit gently, the front suspension shafts were bent on one side. My goal is to restore this to box art specs using vintage parts, no re-res. Should be interesting as some goodies are hard to come by. So far found front and rear tires, rear cage, antenna, stickers and bumper.

Body lived in brake fluid bath for three days to remove three layers of paint...




Anyway, as I look for parts for this car, I want to get started on finding and building my RC10 collection, hence posting here.

Looks good so far. I'd really wash the brake fluid out of that break before gluing. What parts are you in need of?

All the parts got a good soapy wash after the brake fluid.

I'll list the parts I need once I get enough access to do so.

It's all good just thought I would let you know before a mod did! And nice car by the way. I used to have a la4ge tamiya collection but sold it all of several years ago.

Let me guess.....there is a rather large contingent of RC10s in your possession now

Not as many as I used to have. I have 6 or 7 in pieces that I'm currently working on. I'm trying not to let collecting get out of hand again and just stick to certain cars.

I hear you on that score, don't have the room to have one (or more) of every car I wish I could have. Need to get rid of a few more so I can get some I've always wanted.

I almost bought that car. It was listed for quite awhile and I have too many others I have to worry about first.

Made some good progress today. The majority of the parts I've ordered have come in and were installed. All vintage, no re-re's.



Can someone tell me, is this connector attached to the motor standard issue? I don't think so, but want be be sure before I cut it out.

They came without connectors so you could get the wires through the motor cover.

The pins are slid into the connector. Take a jeweler's flat-head screwdriver or a long pin or something, and look inside the connector from the outer end; you should see two barbs or tabs for each pin, keeping it from sliding out. Press in the barbs and pull on the connector, the pins should slide out quite easily. Hacking away also works.
